40 mil for me and I'd accept the transfer. I'd much rather keep him like and let Moyes gradually add quality while trimming the wage bill. If he wasn't one of our own I'd feel more mercenary about it but there's nothing better in football than seeing local lads doing the business for the team they love on the big stage. Real shame when it gets dismantled chasing a cash payout.
Totally get the bit about being homegrown. I think we need to be ruthless, though. I've mentioned before that Southampton have got rid of Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Schneiderlin and even Gareth Bale. They do alright, don't they? When you look at them as a model, then you see David Moyes may well have a point.
If we got £30m I'd also reluctantly let him go, providing it means we can reinvest it into some quality players which will help up move away from the relegation zone. Would also guess that Man City would be most likely as Bravo is a plumb. Or failing that Liverpool when they realise the two they've got are plumbs!! Man U have De Gea, Spurs - Loris, Arsenal - Cech, Chelsea - Courtois. Mannone is more than adequate as no 1.
Yeah I think my view is clouded a bit because I think most modern footballers are mercenary, cheating twats and so having a top lad like Pickford at the club is something real I can latch onto. Heart over head I suppose. If he goes for a bumper payout and we use the money wisely then I'll get over it and no matter where he goes I'll follow his career until he retires.
Not sure but one thing is for certain, we won't get the money now that we'll get 4 windows down the line. Less than 40m would have to command a massive sell on fee to compensate for what we'll lose by letting him go early. He's English, young and inflation is going through the roof. Bids need to reflect this.
Mig and 20 I guess would be Liverpool, Vito is better than Mig. Has to be 40 up for me ,no make weights on big wages, and 20 for Kone, give it to Moyes to spend,
Yeah, I get that mate. Sometimes with clubs like us, it's going to be needs must at times. The good thing is though, he's not the only youngster coming through now and he certainly won't be the last. I think with the talent at our disposal, we could just be touching on our new model. Udinese have done this for years and it's been really successful for them. We touched on doing it a few years back, but we were seemingly just buying any old random youngsters. Now we have genuine talent that could see us making a good few million, every year. We won't sell them all, we'll still see homegrown talent on the pitch.
If Pickford sat down and said he wants to spend the next few years here I wouldn't listen to any offers. I certainly wouldn't want Mig back. No new keeper would be needed if he did go.
We had our chance and we blew it. I said all along he's not a 20m player and we should have sold him. Probably looking at about 10m, now.
Oh defo, I've been following our kids closely. Lot's of quality. Pickford is the Jewel in the crown though out of all the kids, they'll be nobody close for carrying his value coming through for quite a while. Possibly Asoro but he has a long way to go before he'll command a massive fee.
I agree , but has put himself back in the shop window last few games, a young Titus for me, gets caught out ,as seen at Stoke last season.,,,,,,,,MBC
I'd be fine with him going a Liverpool/City where he can get into the first team and grow on a way steeper curve than he can with us. A deal of 35+ and a denayer type would get it over the line for me as I think it would suit both clubs and the lad himself. That said I'd be very, very happy if he stayed.
Although we as fans know what he's worth. Other clubs will still be looking at him as a young and relatively inexperienced goalkeeper. Considering goalkeepers don't go for as much as outfield players, usually. I think we all might be a bit blinkered here as to what we will actually, or could actually, get for him.
Agreed. Think my figure of 35-45 is slightly ridiculus but I wouldn't sell him unless the fee was bordering on ridiculous. Like the hendo fee.
I don't think other clubs would think it's ridiculous at all. Mag pals, a West Ham fan at work, and a visitor at work from Stoke have all mentioned him as soon as we've talked teams. Believe me the league has noticed the lad, well and truly. He's been in the England setup for years and had now bridged the gap to the senior squad, even if he's a way off getting a game yet. £30million should be the bare minimum, plain and simple. Frankly, if that **** Short tried to make money off the lad while he's trying to sell the club, Jordan should go full Mackem and dig his heels in and stay, his time will come at a massive club.
Then you believe quite wrongly. It would have been much more helpful and accurate if you had read my posts more thoroughly.
My worry is a sale could be to appease the bank balance and not for reinvestment in the playing squad. Would be unforgivable that as far as I'm concerned. if he goes for 30m i want every penny going on the squad. not 10m and some cock and bull story of signing on fees and agents swallowing up the rest.
I also think any fee will offset our increasing debt. Its a shame as a good fee say in the region of 25m would give Moyes the ability to buy some quality the squad needs. I would be surprised if Moyes will be given anymore than say 6 or 7 million from any transfer fees we receive from Pickford and whoever else we sell ( as I think there will be more)
I honestly believe that we wont get more than £10-£15 million for him at the mo! If a club offered that, knowing us, we would snap their arm off!
