The last 2 pics just show that not everyone shares the same view on Townsend, sceptics say another flash in the pan, can't blame them with some of the names in that list. And others see the RW as a poison chalice, the quip, that went this one was that since tv's were made colour there's been no-one as effective as Alan Ball, can't comment myself on that one, bit too early for me.

Wouldn't say Becks was a fail though, thought he done great for England.
 
Beckham a fail? That guy carried the england team for a decade. And that was the "golden generation" he was carrying too
 
Also unfair on Coppell. Was a top player in his day, really worked hard. Was unfortunate to have to retire very young.
 
.....what did they help us win? **** all, a 3rd/4th playoff one year!! that is the point here, not whether they had some good games. Alan Ball is the only player with a senior international honour...so far!

So what? How many international honours do Ronaldo, Messi and Bale have between them?
 
Would have to taint a lot of good players as failures then. Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Bale etc. Not their fault they didn't have the other 10 players to win a World cup
 
.....slow down lads, I didn't make the picture or the quote with it, just explaining its meaning from where I found it, its an observation about wingers since 66, nothing else.

By that logic they could make the same little picture about any position on the pitch though. All our goalkeepers since Banks have been failures, all our strikers since Hurst etc. Not really sure what the significance of right wing is... I think the pic was probably made by an Everton fan hence the love of Alan Ball.

BTW he was never right wing, as Peters wasn't left wing. They were the "wingless wonders"

You are right though, some of the keeper clangers over the decades make Gomes look quite tame! make a photoshop gag about it then! :)

No-one needs to do that. General consensus is England have been overhyped rubbish for decades but for an odd team here and there that were good enough to make qtrs/semi's.

Beckham can be classed as a failure for his sending off when having the upperhand v Argentina, Owen should have been on the winning side with that goal.

Waddle was a failure for not scoring in ET v Germany and the penalty that got him free Pizza Hut for life!

Some players I agree have done well in games and campaigns, but when its come down to the nitty gritty, the key moments when it really matters, you want these players to do something, they haven't, like it or not thats a fail! :)
 
Presumably and going on the facial expressions of those 3 who clearly can't read!, the ride doesn't actually move, something pops up though the seat! <yikes>
