I worked on the demo in the 80's and one of our drivers got subbied to the firm that were resurfacing the strand, the diggers unearthed miles of 1 foot thick copper cables and he got in on the shareout......and retired.<laugh>

Mad city though Liverpool isn't it mate. Not only did we get rid of the Overhead but the trams as well <doh> Imagine the cost of building these things again nowadays and we already had them. We've got the Wiliamson Tunnels which get used for **** all as well.
