I totally, 100% agree on the karaoke but that wasnt the point being made was it? It said we only stayed up because of other teams failings. Well that's true - but that's the only reason any team ever stays up so it's not a valid reason to criticise him. Brown has a hell of a lot of faults, but this wasnt one.
Although I agree with this and the 3 teams who get relegated are the 3 worse teams in the league in that season, I would say things swing a bit further towards other teams failings than usual for our survival in the premier league due to the fact that it's a rare occasion a team avoids relegation in the premier league with a lowly 35 points.
what do you mean 'a team like Newcastle'? They're hardly a big club who are essential in the top flight. They've been up and down plenty of times in my lifetime and would almost certainly have been relegated to the 3rd tier if Keegan hadnt turned them around. Man Utd or Arsenal they aint and it is no shock whatsoever to see them relegated.
what hasn't really be mentioned yet, and is also the fault of Duffen and Bartlett - that the reason why those 3 are not remembered in fond affection by the majority of fans is that under the Marx Brothers the club was mismanaged financially. If Phil Brown had been manager under the Allam's financial standards, where he had to use his contacts at other clubs (like Mr Pearson had to, and Mr Barmby will have to) - who would he have been able to bring in (probably not the standards of his actual signings). And finally look at his managerial record:- Derby - sacked Hull - sacked Preston - sacked before Christmas (due to having a chairman who will not allow him a blank cheque book). And if you were a chairman would you employ someone with that record
Well, we did sign him, and luckily for you when you discuss the history of your club, and what it achieved at Wembley etc.
With our form post Christmas we should have gone down, in that respect we were maybe lucky that there were poorer teams than us given our low points tally. But Newcastle, Middlesborough or West Brom didn't do enough to stay up that season and we did. We only lost to one of those three teams once so that probably helped our case too.
Due to where I live I met the bloke on literally dozens of occasions. Some days he'd stop and talk, other days he'd completely ignore me. Football aside but that's the sign of a bit of a bell end in my opinion.
This is taken off the BBC web page for PNE. Preston manager Phil Brown has accused some of his players of avoiding physical challenges. North End lost 1-0 to League Two Southend in their FA Cup first round replay at Roots Hall on Tuesday. "If a player refuses to put his head in for a header he's not going to be playing for Preston North End," Brown told BBC Radio Lancashire. "You're after a little bit of conviction in the final third and we didn't have that." Brown added: "I'm sick to death of talking about confidence, when you cross the white line you play football." Another of the egotists often used excuses, anybody but himself. He appears to have learned nothing from his previous experiences. But when he thinks he is never wrong it is only to be expected of him.
It's pretty obvious isn't it? It's rare that a club with players who'd cost about £80m, with a weekly wage bill of £10m+, who have been in the top flight for 15 seasons goes down. Having managed to finish below Stoke, Blackburn, Pompey, etc, I think we were fairly lucky that a fancied club went tits up so spectacularly. We deserved to stay up because we got enough points but to stay up on such a low number, have Newcastle implode and to do it having won 1 game in 4 months is fairly lucky.
if PNE lose there next 2 games (both away) 2 moz and tuesday @ hartlepool...i expect PB to be sacked.
maybe something to do with PB on the verge of the sack and IF Ash plays so many games he gets an extra year on his contract after this season. maybe true maybe false, who knows. but it makes one wonder why ash is always on the bench as an un-used sub.
Great minds think alike mate. Thats what i said to Mrs Tickler the other night. Would not surprise me at all. Yes i think both Wigley and Horton would be perfect foils for Nicky Barmby. Its time for Brian to cut his ties with Tango Man for good.
I agree, I always felt BH has been one of our best managers, and as you say he would be a great addition.
