Ah! Whitby-happy memories- had my second school camp there when I was 13. Walked along the clifftops to Robin Hood's Bay to see my Auntie & Uncle who stayed every year in a little cottage near the sea. Went back 30 years later and stayed in a pub at Egton- and played golf at Whitby Golf Club. Very quaint coastline, Happy Days.

When I as a kid it was 14. I guess that makes me older than you.

By extrapolation it probably means it was only 4.

Bustino75: OK, chores finished and rowing over for the day. Well, Timeform's 1957 comments on Counsel are absolutely minimal, and on the York race you mentioned, hardly anything. Here's the full piece from Timeform on the horse:

    ........................................................................................................................................

    Counsel 6 b.h. Court Martial-Wheedler (Umidwar)............................................................118

Unattractive individual but a smart handicapper: had only one success in eight outings, scraping home by a short head in the valuable 1m Rose of York Handicap at York in August and thus winning that useful prize for the second year in succession: ran quite well in his other outings, finishing third once and fourth on three occasions at 1m: stays 1-1/4m but his form over that distance in 1957 was some way below his best and we believe 1m is his trip nowadays: acts on firm going but is a much better horse on an easy surface. R. J. Colling.

John Hanmer must have seen something Timeform didn't. I suppose Counsel was getting on by then. As a 3yo he won the Greenham.
Thank you so much Jongleur, you're a gentleman.
