And why did you feel the need to be merging threads in the first place?

I take your point RvB, he is most certainly critical of both. In reading the article, I believe he points the on-field finger quite squarely at Theo. The negative body language is there for everyone to see scarily in the big games! Does this boy realise that he plays for Arsenal yet?

We've had to merge loads of threads after last night. The board would have been filled up with repeat themed threads otherwise.

So how about the question of mine you didn't answer?

'If Spurs are spending £132.2m per year on wages at a massive 70%-80% of their income, compared to Arsenal's £124.4m at 55% of their income. Coupled with their net £153m difference in spend on transfers - how does this equate to Spurs spending less than Arsenal?'

Or was it just the difficult questions that you choose to ignore ? <whistle>

  10. Well Kentish, I'm not sure what is going on inside the head of this boy. There was a CL match some years ago where I saw him trip and get up again with the ball, perhaps make a pass too. I can't recall which game it was. It may even have been our win at San Siro. Then there are the flashes of brilliance like the occasion when he scored the third goal against Chelsea in Sep 2010 by timing his interception. Then we have the displays which amount to a lack of composure. Yet it was only a couple of months ago when RvP was praising him for all his assists. I really don't know what's up or down with Theo. He proves Hansen wrong and then undoes all the good work..... the man is a mystery. I'm sure he doesn't know either!!!

Spurs' wage bill in the season ending 2011 was £91m, a full £33m less than Arsenal's. This was up by about £24m from the year before and more than fully paid for by the extra income from the Champions' League. I seriously doubt it will be much higher this year, as we have trimmed the squad substantially and we've also had a surplus on player trading.
Arsenal's total spending on players (wages + transfers) is consistently higher than that of Spurs, which is only to be expected because you've got more income to fund it. In previous seasons it has resulted in a better squad which far out-achieved the Spurs squad. This year it's a mystery to me how the Arsenal wage bill can be higher

Petit is spot on, rubbish players who have been shown too much faith - shove off! Petit also shares our bafflement as to why Wenger and Co. refuse to strengthen the squad. Enough is enough, I have finally run out of patience with Wenger, he can **** right off, along with the crap players he has burdened us with for years, get lost!!

The cost of (Spurs) maintaining a large squad for European football saw overall costs, largely made up of wages, rise 35 per cent to £131.2 million in 2011, up from £97.1 million in 2009-10.

their (Arsenal) total salary bill to £124.4m in the year to May 2011, according to accounts released on Friday.

Costs "largely made up of wages" implies NOT ALL wages. The wages were £91m as I said previously.

Got anymore difficult questions that need answering Piskie?

  17. Where was it I said that Spurs spent less than Arsenal? Besides £132m v £124m is hardly a major difference in real terms. That we spent all that cash and Spurs are 10 points ahead of us begs the question that has asked here many times - how is it we pay out so much and get so little in return? That Arsene as it has been suggested is involved in the wages structure raises an important issue as to whether the man is fit to be accorded this responsibility.

What concerns real fans like us is the decline of our club. That they spend cash so inefficiently is further testimony that the management of our club need to be changed.

    Petit calls for clear-out
Ex-Gunners midfielder warns Arsenal must overhaul squad

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has told Arsene Wenger he must release any under-performing stars if he is going to win silverware.

The 41-year-old, who spent three years with the Gunners, was an interested spectator as AC Milan registered a 4-0 first-leg advantage over his former club in the UEFA Champions League last-16.

And the Frenchman insists there will need to be a lot of changes at Emirates Stadium if trophies are going to be won.

Petit, a World Cup winner in 1998, believes Wenger must look at parting company with some of his big names to make room for established players and is adamant that changes should be made with immediate effect.

    End of the cycle

"We shouldn't hesitate to talk about the end of the cycle," he told sofoot.com. "Regardless of age, we have to look seriously at certain players. Right now."

Petit, famed at Highbury for his partnership with Patrick Viera at the heart of midfield, highlighted Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Andrey Arshavin and Tomas Rosicky as key men who are failing to live up to their potential.

"You have to send out a strong signal. You have to say to Arshavin, and to Rosicky: 'Gentlemen, thank you, but goodbye'. And soon."
    Emmanuel Petit
    Quotes of the week
"Certain young players haven't done enough to justify the confidence that Arsene has in them," he added.

"Walcott, somehow he's going to have to reach the next stage. It's been years that he's been at the same level.

    Experience

"Ramsey, against Milan, I got the impression it was his twin brother on the pitch. In the way they behave, in their body language, we see they're not there anymore."

The France international believes now is the time for Wenger to look to the future and insists his compatriot must be firm if he is going to get the message across.

"You have to send out a strong signal. You have to say to Arshavin, and to Rosicky: 'Gentlemen, thank you, but goodbye'. And soon," he said.

"What's needed is five or six players of real stature, great experience. Players between 27 and 30-years-old at most.

"Players with technical qualities, obviously, but also strong character. A group of guys who refuse to accept defeat, who inspire confidence in the rest of the team."

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why not make Emmanuel Petit your next manager? He seems to be saying what a majority of you are saying. A voice for the people!

He is a World cup winner, intelligent player and a character.

    Sign him up!
