Good sausages to supermarket ones are like chalk and cheese ..... a bit like 'dry cure' bacon to the cheap brine cure!
Used to always buy my home made sausages from Kennedys when I lived in Elmstead Woods. Best thing about them (they were fabulous) was the inconsistency in shape and size. I'm sure they did it deliberately to prove they were individually made.
There were two different Kennedy’s. Their original bakery was in Peckham/ Camberwell and they distributed to their shops all over SE London for decades and were formed around 140 years ago! The other Kennedy’s chain was owned by their daughter....smaller set up (about seven or eight shops of which Bromley Market Place was one), but stayed in business for some years after the main outfit ‘mysteriously’ folded. The original company had a branch on just about every high street in SE London and as they slowly closed, one by one, they were very much missed. Great stuff and I and my family ate many a sausage roll from them over the years. Seen one or two raving about their products.....and for London that’s well justified. But honestly folks, there’s nothing to compare to Lincolnshire’s sausages, sausage rolls and pies. Every town has at least one butchers and at least one bakers and their offerings are to die for! The competition up here is very strong and they are all proud as punch of their products and variety! Plenty of pig farms up here of course.
Anyone listen to Danny Baker's Sausage Sandwich game? Brown sauce for me every time, same for SCP when he played the game.
