I like the idea of White and Peltier being used as wing backs, joining up with the midfield. They are both quick enough toget back to defend. In order for us to keep possession, we need to add some meat to our midfield
I can't decide on this one - could see us bouncing back with a 3-0 victory or them beating us 2-1!! Both teams need to win tomorrow really...
Funny. i am sure I watched us beat Wolves last week. Shrewsbury the week before and PNE the week before that? 2-0 Leeds
Well what can I say, it's rather obvious that tomorrow's game will be a draw. We will then have 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw and Warnock will blame the lack of funds, instead of the utterly ****e squad he has put together.
We'll do well I think..Don't really see Diouf tracking back and helping out the defence so hopefully Browny in, Diouf out and Pelts, Lees, White and Pearce at the back. Come on Leeds, keep working for 90 mins!
Good shout Deano, Brown will add some bite. Don't think Peterboro will want to get to close to Brown and Austin
Talk of Mackail-Smith at Posh and Sam playing for Leeds is putting me in a time warp, while suggesting Nunez is a winger, I nearly fell off my swivel-chair! In terms of the defence, we did really well against Wolves with the back line as it was. Pelts and Pearce were solid as centre backs, with Byram only beaten by Jarvis (who has just moved to a Prem club for £10m) a couple of times, and White out at left back. The key about Byram at RB and Pelts at CB is they covered each other really well, and Pearce had complete confidence in Pelts. Question mark - bring in Drury or carry on with White? - Kenny - - Byram - Pelts - Pearce - White - This back line won't panic as much as the one on Tuesday, so we can expect the ball to be played out instead of just hoofed. Hoofing is just the practice of kicking the ball as far as possibule - it is completely different to an accurate long pass like Kenny played to McCormack for our goal v Wolves. Unfortunately, Lees is a hoofer and as such I can't stand him in the team. Then the midfield. With White having pushed back to left back and Green out, we have a space as long as it is Austin and Norris in the middle and Varney on the right. I'd be tempted to play Diouf if his fitness is up for it, to add that creativity and class. If he runs out of puff, we can then bring on either Brown or Thompson, or as an alternative move McCormack back into midfield and bring on Gray or Poleon to play with Becchio. - Varney - Norris - Austin - Diouf - - McCormack - Becchio - That's my analysis, for what it's worth
So Elmo, would you not prefer Drury as LB with White pushed on as LW. I mean I'm not a big fan of White but with the situation as it is thats probably what I'd do. I actually think Varney is the weak link at the moment or rather the weakest link (not a reference to any tv show whatsoever) in that team I also do not quite understand how you can bring on Brown or Thompson for Diouf, they are completely different players, would you play Norris out wide or Brown/Thompson? Can Norris play out wide?
I'd drop Norris, use White and Pelts as attacking wing backs andhave Brown and Austin commanding the centre of midfield
Josh - I did mention that there is a question mark over White v Drury, but guessing that NW has an issue with Drury (either he's not as good as he thought, or he's not fit, or he has some personal problems, or White is just better - God forbid) the only option is White with Drury on the bench. I would like to see "the best left back in the division" in the team though, but White then becomes a weak link. I really do not see him adding any value in midfield. Bringing on a player allows you to start moving things around. Brown or Thompson on for the right midfield would allow a 3 man central midfield in a diamond formation - Austin holding, Brown/Thompson and Norris slightly ahead - letting Varney kick on into an attacking midfielder role much the same as Howson. It just allows us to have a different way of playing and allows us to introduce solidity. We could remain with the 442, Brown and Austin central, with Norris and Varney in the wider midfield roles, or as I said don't bring on Brown or Thompson, push McCormack back instead, and bring on Gray or Poleon up front. What I don't want to see is our best attacking player and probably one of our best players full stop - McCormack - substituted time and again in order to lessen the value of the team. One thing is for certain: I would not have Lees anywhere near things, and I sure would not play him so that it forces the team to be weaker.
Fair enough Elmo, I was just trying to understand because when you said replace him for Brown/Thompson I was a bit confused with the formation or whether you knew something I didn't about Norris' capabilities of playing out wide I still don't understand your issue with Lees though. I personally think he more than gets into our strongest defence and wouldn't exactly be a weak link either. I don't fully agree with him hoofing it every time though, on occasion yes but I think thats more to do with him being uncomfortable rather than poor. When on the ball he has shown to be quite good at times. His defending certainly isn't bad
I think Lees is poor, just my opinion. 80% of the time he gets muscled out by a forward, 50% of his defensive headers slice off him (I have never seen a CB do this before, and he does it all the time), and he offers no bite. A CB should be a real nasty ****er who decides that if the ball is his, he is gonna get it. Lees is just too nice to do that. I'd ship him. Lovely lad. But that's all.
Kenny, Peltier. Lees, Pearce, Drury, Diouf, Austin, Norris, Varney, McCormack, Becchio. Subs: Ashdown, Kisnorbo, White, Brown, Gray, Byram, Poleon
