Watched him in the warm up the other day. His finishing was top draw; far and away the best of all our players. BUT doesn't seem to be able to do it in when matters. I think the other night was the 3rd 1 on 1 he's fluffed. Hopefully he comes good tomorrow though, we don't really have any other options bar KLP!
I hope that’s right, but SA has set us up quite cautiously so far. If we can bring the McCann attacking style back I’d be grateful, and what better time to do than against the man himself?!
McCann's going to be expecting us to sit back after seeing us play against Barnsley. He'll know we want a reaction. Sadly, from Tuesday's detritus it's pretty obvious that as soon as we get pressed, we suck. So some sort of five man midfield would be a better way to go. Peterborough have been playing a 4-1-4-1, but if they go 4-3-3, we'll have the numbers advantage all over the park.
I also think having Jones in there means he can slot into the back line allowing another one of the centre halves to move across to stop the overloads.
The big wins McCann got towards the end were all cautious set ups with clinical counter attacks? Pretty much what Shota is attempting minus the clinical. KLP missed good chances in both to spin the game in our favour. These are the small details that matter when analysing the game as a whole. He scores that in minute 5 I think it was their heads would’ve dropped immediately. Longman nearly nicked us the Sheff UTD game same way he did Bournemouth. For the quality of players we have in most games it’s the appropriate set up. Bar probably Peterborough and Barnsley who are similar in terms of quality. Which is why tuesday was so disappointing
I might be talking out of my arse here, (not for the first time I’ve been told,) I have two worrying feelings; Firstly, a feeling of deja vu, players unsure of contracts, knowing there will be a clear out in Summer, if they think their time is up, will they be committed to playing for fear of injury? Secondly, the Grant factor, which manager will some of them be playing for, ours or him, if they are eyeing up a move to join McCann? I know they should be “professional” and play for their paymasters, but who knows. If I were Acun I’d be offering a bigger win bonus than normally for this game to focus the minds.
To try ease your worrying feelings ask yourself who were they playing for against Sheff Utd and QPR? Because it certainly looked to me like they were playing for Shota. This team hasn’t been consistent all season bar a 6 game run. They’ve put in performances like that of Barnsley under McCann. One being the first game against our opposition on Saturday, Blackpool away, Stoke and Derby at home. We can go on but it’s pointless worrying about something that I think is only adding to the nerves of us potentially going down. Whilst I see your point, I just think abit of perspective is needed on this squad. The 2 wins we had just before Grant was sacked was on the back of 3 losses in a row. This level of inconsistency has been the norm of our season. A draw on saturday is a good result in my eyes now, avoiding another banana skin game.
Happy with a point, ever since McCann left he seems to have become the greatest manager to walk the earth judging by a lot of stuff I’ve read , so I just hope we don’t get embarrassed .
Sorry, but I cant think any professional footballer will be thinking I wish I played for Peterborough under Grant McCan
