I don’t know what his resounding quality is. He’s not quick, evidently not a good finisher after the chance he missed, not big or strong. Not McCann’s finest guess he didn’t have much choice
I think he always looks bright and energetic. I wouldn't say he's definitely not a good finisher. He's not really had many chances but I think there are some promising signs - he buried one against Sheff United when wrongly given offside. Really thought he'd score that one the other night when he went through but obviously he missed that chance to prove himself. Given that we signed him for basically nothing when he was way down the pecking order at Sheff United, I guess we've got what we paid for so far.
7/8 more points keeps us up I reckon as that would mean derby/peterborough would have to get 21 points in 13 and 14 games respectively which is their tally for the season currently. 5 out our last 12 games are currently in the bottom half, 1 in the play offs, other 6 mid table. Always find playing teams that don’t have much left to play for the most favourable in a run in, Millwall, Bristol City, Brum fit that category. Have to play pretty much all the sides chasing the last spot in the play offs too. Nervous times ahead for us all.
Just with them being 16 points clear you don’t really see them being in the ****. And they beat Luton not long ago so not out of form in the same way we are
Derby point total for the season is actually 42pts. They are more then capable of getting another 21pts.
They are capable but that tally goes up everytime either we or Reading etc get points. They’re going to have to win 7/8 out of their remaining 13. Which is unlikely given how their form has plateaued as of late.
Funny how tomorrow has panned out.... PETERBOROUGH v HULL CITY BARNSLEY v MIDDLESBROUGH BIRMINGHAM v HUDDERSFIELD CARDIFF v FULHAM LUTON v DERBY then BLACKPOOL V READING All those ive put in bold have a lot to play for at the other end of the table...
I felt that comment was more related to it being first time he felt he had a RB (Coyle) available so that meant we could do it. I really like Bernard - he has pace which can get him out of trouble and good going forward but still a bit naive at times. Actually thought he did ok at QPR but less well v Barnsley. He and Longman together on that wing just really lack experience but we ain't got a lot of choice.
I think 3-5-2 is going to be best fit given the players we have. -------------------Ingram------------- ---------Bernard Macca Greaves ------ Longman-------------------------------Fleming ------------------Jones----------------- ------------Honeyman --Slater ------------ -------------- KLP-----Smith That's really the best we can hope for given the injuries we have. 3 mobile midfielders who will (hopefully) move for the ball and support the wide men with possession. Gives us a bit of pace up front too if we find ourselves having to sit in and defend. A back 4 with Bernard will just get done over by JCH and Szmodics. If he's fit you could swap Elder for Fleming. Smallwood should be dropped; I know he tends to well in scrappy games, but he was woeful on Tuesday and it doesn't say much to the rest of the squad if he's kept in, captain or not. Slater's passing ability and mobility make him the much better option for me. I'm not sold on Smith either, granted he was a free transfer from Sheffield United reserves, but as far as strikers go he's the only other one we have fit and needs must. I wouldn't be afraid to chuck Josh Hinds in, but I think Smith from the start at least gives us that pacier option.
Injuries really hurting us, Honeyman Longman and maybe KLP all well worth a rest but there is no viable replacement.
But that’s a very attacking formation, and relies on us being on the front foot and pressing from minutes 1 to 90. I’m not sure that’s how Shota has us playing, if we sit back in that formation we will be destroyed with overloads on the wings. Think the first half against Bournemouth.
I saw Smith play for the reserves against Cov before Xmas, the one we won 6-0 or something, the day Smith got injured. He scored a couple of decent goals, showed a lot of pace and a good finish. There’s definitely a half decent player there, but he needs proper service. He will win the same number of long distance high balls as Forss - zero.
Within the big picture of the week who cares really looking forward to a few beers with mates the football is secondary. Probably end up a draw as we will set up not to lose.
We need to win, if we sit back away from home against a team like P'Boro, we're asking for trouble. I don't think our gameplan against weaker teams will be to sit back. Against the likes of QPR and Fulham, yes. But we saw against Swansea that when we press and play with fluidity, we can be decent.
