Was it not Yeovil that had an (in)famous sloping pitches 8ft from sideline to sideline? There were a few other but I cannot remember them atm whose home pitch give them an advantage. LJ will pick horses for courses, literally, for this game no doubt.
The next game is always the biggest, especially given the current state of affairs. I agree it’s a massive, huge game. The calmness is bizarre. Normally pacing about up a height for these just everything feels right at the minute.
Think everyone of the squad are giving 100% now and no one is shirking, it’s good we have a big squad even without the injuries and all are pulling together in the right direction. Scow en is a workhorse and if he could just put away a few of the chances he gets then he could easily be one of the first names on the team sheet
Nice bottle of red at the ready for the match with half a bottle of whisky on standby just in case things get tense. Ha’way me Bonny Lads. Bring it on.
Thank You RTB ! Once again an excellent post. Well hoping I'm Wrong again today with my forecast vote... It will be a hard fought match of that I'm certain. I've been saying for a long time that the only team in this division who can screw Sunderland up is..........Sunderland!!! If we put in a performance like we did against Pompey - no worries but if we don't it could be a 90+ minute itchy bum time. It all depends on which Sunderland side turns out today (The Very Good or the Mediocre) I am praying the Very Good Ruthless side is on display today so Come Lads, Show everyone what you are capable of. Haway the Lads!!!!!! FTM.
I have a perspective on the importance of today in that I look at it as just 1 of 9 left to play. I do not think our season will be defined by one or two games, but by all 9. We must treat this no differently to how we treated Bristol Rovers or Oxford. Players like routine in my experience, many of them are creatures of habit. Today for everyone is just a chance to get 3 points and no more. What we have been really good at and since Wembley in my opinion is playing the game not the potential outcome. I think this is all down to outstanding preparation by the coaches. We seem to be really clear on what happens when and what to do in all circumstances. Each performance seems tailor made to the situation. With this in mind I dont see the squad travelling with any different mindset to when they travelled to Bristol Rovers - time to do my job to best of my ability. We are not invincible of course, no team ever is. I do think we will have a slip up or two in these last 9 games. We may get a rough ref decision, or an individual mistake. There may be a team who play better than us on the day. For me it wont be doom and gloom because I trust the coaches and players to shrug it off and get ready for the next one. After the play off final loss to Charlton my wife said to me it is just a game of football! I wasnt best pleased. The older I get though I do tend to think in the course of a league season each is just a game of football with 3, 1, or 0 points being all that can be earned. If we focus on controlling what we can control we should get the outcome at the end of season we want.
The great thing with us is that even when we are average the defence is outstanding. You just can’t see us giving away cheap goals, it’s a massive thing to have in this league. We’ve 2 of the best 4 players in the league with Geads and Jones. Down side being Posh have the other 2 with Sczmodics and Clarke-Salter. We gonna need the energy high all day.
Been my pre match ritual recently to stop me being nervous!! Not always 10 miles but running before a match then a hot shower before opening the beer for the match
