Reattach your knees: - We just played one of the three best sides in the world. If you took the world's 20 best players they would have at least 5. - Until they scored several of our players were clearly able to compete at their level. In the second half we kept going. - Sterling and Coutinho looked good. - The new signings - Can, Lallana came on and did well. Markovic wasn't much involved but was tidy. Balotelli had a reasonable game all considered. It wasn't his fault. - On Balo, Carra has said that Pepe asked him to swap, not the other way around. - We all know Skrtel is hopeless. He will lose us goals to Madrid, QPR, whoever. Last night was no surprise. The other issues in our side - lack of DM, RB were always going to be exposed, as they are routinely in the PL vs Villa, West Ham etc. - Mignolet had a decent game. - We really should have scored. Madrid didn't get out of second gear in the second half but three nil still flattered them. If we'd scored they might have started playing again but who knows. On experience: - Ronaldo has won the CL one time less than Rodgers, Sterling, Lallana etc have played in it. - That Madrid side is full of genuine world class, seasoned professionals. We have a team which can perform at a level approaching that but is currently devoid of confidence and robbed of our now talismanic striker. - Our team is still gelling. Great example of it when Balo took the ball out of the air brilliantly and played Sterling through, but Sterling hadn't arced his run as he expected. Outcomes (what little they are) from last night: - We desperately need a defensive coach. Our defence from any sort of cross is a joke. - An experienced right back and centre back would be lovely. We need leaders. - There were lots of promising individual performances - Sterling, Cou, Lallana, Can - even Joe Allen had a decent game. Madrid were simply much more clinical and much faster in the final third - an issue of pure skill and also confidence. - Sterling once again showed the level he's at now (incredible for 19) and the equally incredible potential he has. Coutinho looks bang in form again. Realistically we were never going to win this game. 3-0 is a fair reflection of the sides on paper and that score didn't really do us credit. If we capture that sort of intensity again we'll start winning consistently in the PL. Remind me how Bayern did vs Madrid last season at home?
