They also thought Chester and Stewart weren't good enough, along with Shawcross, Eagles, Ebanks-Blake, Greening, Guthrie, Healy, Higginbotham and a whole stack of other players who could probably do a job for us. Even Gerard Piqué was flogged after only 12 games for United and I think he's just about making a name for himself in the game.
Peter Beardsley,David Platt,Robbie Savage and even the likes of Tim Howard and Diego Forlan weren't considered good enough for Man Utd.I'm not saying Evans will be in the same bracket as those mentioned but give the lad a chance for crying out loud .
Selling Gerard Pique was one of the biggest mistakes Fergie ever made. They had a choice between Jonny Evans and Pique, and they chose Evans. Look at the gulf in class between them now. Pique's still only pretty young and would probably cost over ã30m now. Also, what part of that Youtube video suggests that Eilhoff is a bit dodgy? (I didn't watch it all)
I thought Pique wanted to return to Barcelona when Man U sold him so they didn't have much choice in the matter?
He's a Barca fan, so he probably did want to go back there, but Man United weren't forced to sell him, they obviously didn't rate him as potentially a big money player, or they wouldn't have let him go for just over ã3m.
Aargh, I wasn't saying "If he's not good enough for Man Utd he's not good enough for us", that'd be stupid. Simply saying I find it a bit weird how they weren't willing to sell him in January but they are now.
Hope we get Evans signed up, better to get young promising players and develop them rather than wasting a lot of money on cynical old pros who put in a shift when they feel like it. Not surprised to see TWF slagging Evans and showing yet again his complete lack of football knowledge, the plastic jonny come lately that he is
http://www.thisishullandeastriding....Headline/article-3425759-detail/article.html? HDM stating it is done deal but he may have cost us about ã500k. Isn't he out of contract in the summer? I don't know how clubs normally deal with this as unless he is offered a new deal at man u he would have been free to leave in the summer wouldn't he? Is this just the cost of making sure he comes to city rather than another club or maybe they were considering a new contract for him and this is to stop them? Alternatively it could well be a completely made up figure!
We had an offer of around ã300k turned down in January, so the ã500k mentioned might well be just an educated guess. He's a Man United academy player, who's under 24, so even if he was out of contract Man United will still be entitled to compensation from the next club he signed for, that would probably be a few hundred grand anyway, so it makes sense to sort it now. I noticed recently that he was runner up in the Man United reserve player of the year awards, nothing particularly surprising in that, only the kid he lost to was called Chester.
Would that apply if they didn't offer him a new deal? I don't know exactly how it works anyway I suppose they probably offer a deal to most youngsters even if they actually don't want to keep them just to ensure they get a fee/compensation if they think that is likely.
It's not all that clear without going back and checking all the rule numbers mentioned, but here's the general conditions: Compensation 91.
