Anyone else reckon we should make an enquiry for Xabi Alonso? Lucas is out for 3 months, would help Sahin settle, would really bring our midfield to CL quality (Even if thats just on paper). I know some may say he's past it, but I reckon he'd take a pay cut and would be a good addition for not only the pitch but also a really influential player on the training ground and in the dressing room. He's also expressed interest in wanting to play for Liverpool again one day, Nuri Sahin said he believes Xabi Alonso really loves the club. Benefits - Would give Steven Gerrard the freedom to really push forward. Would help Nuri Sahin settle and may convince him to sign permanently. Would help Joe Allen, Jordan Henderson and possibly Lucas develop further. Would be a vital part of the man management of the squad. Would surely help us make a big push for a CL spot. Would give good cover to the team. Would bring the Liverpool feel to the dressing room, really make players believe they are playing for a big club and promote loyalty aswell as passion in the team. I reckon the only reason to object would be because of his wages, but if you look at the bigger picture I think he could turn out to be a really good signing. Thoughts?
I'd love Xabi to come back if cheap and not to big wages... ... although really we need more cms like we need a second anus. Love to see him back though.
Think Xabi will return next season when we give Nuri back........Nuri will become reals new playmaker and we will get Xabi on the cheap with a year remaining on his contract....... Gerrard, Suarez, Allen, Alonso, Lucas, Agger, Skrtel, Sterling, reina, johnson and co to have one major push next year to get the title for Stevie.........thats why Alonso will be back next season
We're loaning out Jay Spearing so he would be good cover for the CDM position.. Edit - I'm asking about everyones opinions, not on the chance of it happening, factor out the wages and look deep into the benefits and tell me what you think?
Just about! Almost lunch time, what to have. Maybe some triple cheeseburgers, Large Fry, and 32 ox of ice cold cola. Anyway, I would take Alonso back in a heartbeat but he should be starting. Alonso-Allen-Sahin.
Would love to see it.. But it'll never happen! We need to look forward and Xabi at 31 (an I love the fella, true LFC Legend!) would be a backward step!
Looks like we've already decided his signing next summer. So who's actually going to tell Xabi Alonso?
We have to have a mix of youth and experience, the benefits he would bring to the table hardly would make it a backward step. Edit - apologies for double post!
Not for his position. He doesn't need blinding speed or the most powerful engine for his role in the team. Look at Pirlo and Scholes as two prime examples of how that position you can continue to kick on. Alonso seems to keep his body in check and is physically much better than both of those. 31, that is at least another 4 years of good quality service from him. I would take that.
Just realised his actually only 30 years old (31 next season). I actually don't see why we shouldn't go after him, whether this season or the next!
"Backward step" maybe the wrong phrase.. just think at that age he "may not" get much game time and what game time he gets would take away from others that need it to develop, again, don't get me wrong, I love the fella and if a deal could be struck to get him back on the cheap, I'd happily give him a piggy back all the way from Madrid to Liverpool, but I believe in the youngsters we have, Allen looks superb, Shelvey is developing, and (don't laugh) I think the boy Henderson will turn out good too, also, IF Sahin, plays, enjoys it hear, we qualify for the CLs and he wants to stay, we'd be pretty much well stock in Midfield (Allen, Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson, if he stays Sahin)..
If he resigns, we can then sell him to fund a move for Gareth Barry. I personally cannot see him returning.
