There wasn't any particularly major incident like the Thiago Motta (?) sending off, but around that time they had a team full of very dodgy sorts. Good players yes but dirty players, cheats, etc. Italian football is the worst for it to be honest. The way Ibrahimovic won that penalty against Arsenal which eventually sent them through was ridiculous, it was like one of the Ashley Young ones in the last couple of weeks. I loved it when Tottenham knocked both Milan sides out of the competition last year and made them look silly.

You know, it's funny but try as I might I cant recall Tottenham knocking Internazionale out of the Champions League. Indeed, I'd suggest Schalke might have something to say about that in the quarter finals.

    Now who looks silly?

And I'm sure both Milan clubs feel really stupid knowing they represent the most successful city in European Cup / Champions League history.

I also LOVE the way you say Italian football is the worst for cheats then compare an incident to one involving an English player. That would suggest you are saying English football is just as bad.

I loved the midfield from those days: Price, Green, Ashbee and Elliott. Loads of goals there !

How is being correct "nit picking?" Spurs did not knock Inter out of the Champions League.

    FACT.

Funnily enough, i saw Jason Price in my gym the other day in Leeds, wearing a pair of Oldham Athletic shorts. I cant be bothered to google but is that where he is? Anyone who knows him wont be surprised to hear he wasnt working hard....

edit - I could be bothered to google and he's at Guiseley so makes sense. Lord knows why he was in Oldham shorts though.

I did wonder if I'd invented a second game between Tottenham and Inter - they met in the group stage of course and Tottenham made them look silly then. I couldn't think of who else Tottenham beat to make it to the game against Real other than AC Milan.

By making them look silly I'm talking about the likes of Gattuso throwing a paddy about being beaten fair and square and trying to have a fight with Joe Jordan because snapping half the Tottenham team didn't work <laugh>

If English teams' domination over the last 5 years or so in Europe doesn't count, why do the Milan club's success which was years and years before?

Not at all. I compared it one incident because it's what we've just had a thread about. You see way, way more of it in other countries particularly Italy. If Ashley Young was playing in Italy he'd be praised for winning those penalties like Ibrahimovic was.

Back when teams attacked with a good old 4-4-2. None of this packing the midfield with defensive players nonsense: 2 up front, 2 wingers and an AM in midfield to boot.

Didn't we score over 80 goals that season ?

Burgess, Allsop, Elliott and Price getting into double figures ?

Last 5 years domination? Hmm, considering there has been 1 English winner in that time and BOTH Milan clubs have won it in that time..... but that was years and years ago apparently.

At times like this I am always reminded of Adriano winning a penalty in match however replays clearly showed it to be a dive and he was subsequently given a two match ban. Has the English FA EVER taken such a stance against cheating shown retrospectively when the ref missed it? Hardly praise for winning pens is it? But lets stick to outdated opinions of football that we never watch.

As I said the other day, we've had loads of semi-finalists and finalists in that time, and only your other favourite team Barca have come in the way of further domination. Teams like Real and Milan have been out of the scene for years at a time but people still ****ed over them the whole time as if they were still really good. This year Man U get knocked out early for the first time in years and suddenly English teams are **** now.

I agree with you completely in the criticism of the FA. They never really take any action on anything; the way they see it everything is down to the ref and if he makes it a mistake we've all got to just go with it and accept unfair outcomes. I don't know much about Italian or other foreign FAs but I'm talking about the attitude of coaches, players and fans who promote all the messing about in Italian football. I've watched it enough to back up what I'm saying without going on any outdated opinions.
