Seriously?

The average number of penalties is about 4 per team. Arguably the better teams should have more but if this data shows anything it is that Chelsea got too many penalties in previous seasons. You will be lucky to get away without an FA charge for this as the only possible reason for posting it is to influence referees.

Anyone want to say different?

I agree it probably has been put out there to influence referees. But not from giving pens that aren't but given pens that are. Only 2 pens for the team top of the league is pretty shocking and we've had some clear cut ones not given on multiple occasions.

I don't necessarily agree with the club's approach here and we'll come in for a lot of stick over it, but maybe it highlights the need for refs to have a bit of help as well.

Well let's look at the ones throughout the season

Burnley 1-3 Chelsea - Diego Costa booked for simulation. Clearly taken down by Tom heaton after rounding him. No penalty given and Heaton survives guaranteed red card.

Man United 1-1 Chelsea - anyone who didn't witness the WWE come to Old Trafford that day must be blind. Terry and Ivanovic clearly wrestled to the ground by Rojo and Smalling, on more than one occasion.

Southampton 1-1 Chelsea - Matt Targett loses his footing and takes out Cesc Fabregas inside the area. Clear penalty.

Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea - Jan Vertonghen handles in the area with Chelsea 1-0 up. This is the least likely of all the penalties mentioned but have seen softer handballs given.

Chelsea 1-0 Everton - Naismith handles in the 5th mintue I believe. Blatantly slaps the ball away with his hand. Nervy game was only won in the last mintue.

Chelsea 1-1 Burnley - Two huge penalty shouts in this one and both should have been given. Ivanovic's shot from outside the box is blocked by a raised arm. Costa is literally pushed to the floor by Shackell.

Chelsea 1-1 Southampton - After being punished with a debatablke penalty decision, Chelsea are turned away after Dusan Tadic clearly stands on the heel of Branislav Ivanovic inside the box, bringing the Serb to the ground. Clear penalty.


Not sure if I have missed any others in the league but that is 8 penalties that you could not argue against if they were given. And that is also 8 points not including the Spurs game.

Three were given to Spurs' opponents and only 1 to Chelsea's. That's a balance of thirteen different. Much more 'abnormal' than anything that happened this year. You came four points ahead of us. I can't see the article on you web-site calling for justice.....

Why do it?
Teams aren't just entitled to free penalties because another team has had more and it needs to be even!

Depends what you think is true. If you think you have only had two penalty`s then it is true, if you think there is some kind of campaign against you then it is laughable.

The article has obviously been a success. It got repeated by the BBC. I doubt the CFC website is doing a Pravda, this is just topic fodder for the fans which is what a club website should be about. If the BBC hadn't of showed it I doubt fans of other clubs would of ever of seen it, and they should realise that. This was definitely for home consumption. I swear if I hear one more footballer say 'obviously' in a TV interview I'm gonna find a high tower with a flat roof with clear unblocked views of the training pitch.

The fact is, its a statement on the clubs site for the club's fans to read and debate. If world wide publishing media groups like the BBC consider it newsworthy and other people then read it, that's for them.

The club aren't saying there is a conspiracy but pointing out what are pure facts and oddities in a season where a lot of pen decisions have gone against us. Probably designed to have some sort of influence in future games I guess but I can just as easily see it having the opposite effect.

I repeat, I don't buy into the campaign talk but unfairness (deliberate or otherwise) annoys everyone and as I said before, Refs need more help with technology to ensure teams are winning/losing games on merit not based on poor decisions.

It's still a bit of a pathetic thing for a club's official site to post. Just comes across as a bit whiney IMO. Any club could post a similar article highlighting half a dozen penalties they could have had, not to mention those you've wrongly been awarded.

I'd be interested to know why the club felt the need to do this. I agree it's not really the correct forum but perhaps moans through the official channels have fallen on deaf eyes (not that such 'moans' would ever get anywhere).

Can't remember who it was but didn't one other P.L club make a whole dossier regarding bad decisions that went against them and sent them to the FA? I don't think it's a uniquely Chelsea thing though it's a lot more high profile given our status and manager.

Not a P.L decision but of course Costa's against Liverpool at Anfield was a nailed on one we didn't get as well.

Maybe it's cos we only remember the important ones but it does seem to be mostly decisions at key moments as well, not when we're already 3-0 up. Is that because refs are bottling it?

I vaguely remember that- think it may have been Sunderland. I still think that's better than whinging in public. End of the day if it gets results then maybe the end justifies the means, it's just a shame someone within the club feels a need to keep this 'conspiracy' bollocks going.

I suspect it's the later personally, the same way Jose's attendance on sky the day after the Burnley game was to highlight and moan about ref decisions. It's difficult to defend but I understand the frustrations (the Burnley game being a particularly infuriating example).

As I said earlier, I don't think it's to influence refs to give decisions we shouldn't be getting, but the ones we should and have not been getting (at least in the eyes of Jose / the club).

It's normally very calculated when it comes to Jose. Lets see if there are any key decisions at Hull this weekend and how the ref deals with them.
