"He has never been relegated as a Premier League manager." Well ****, can't argue with that logic. Neither has Pellegrino though.
Bloody hell - mine was on Diterpenoid hydrocarbons in sediments. Degrees aren’t what they used to be.
Really? We covered that stuff in Secondary school Harry Redknapp- the difference in the evolution of academia.
Neither had Shearer or Benitez until they were brought in with very little time to turn things around. Depends whether they are looking to bring someone in who is likely to stay if they go down.
To be fair if that's the sole qualification I'll do it. £10k a week is a bargain, for someone who's never been relegated from the PL, Serie A or the Bundesliga. Seriously though I think they could yet turn it round with the right manager. Which could put us back in danger if we're complacent.
WQql Everything wrong with lazy, feckless media commentary today. A comment like "never been relegated as a manager" is just embarrassing, the bloke is almost entirely to blame for Stoke's predicament. Another crusty has-been who will again walk into a multi-million pound job. If So'ton pick this bullying dinosaur they deserve relegation. Silva would absolutely be the right choice and would drive them well into mid-table. As has been pointed out, So'ton have easily the best squad in the bottom half. Not sure the situations with both Gabbiadini and Carillo, but certainly seems like Pellegrino didn't know what he was doing.
Hughes is fav then it seems. Does make me laugh how the same tried and tested British managers that only ever get mid table in a good year are constantly given these jobs. Judtvobe big circle for pardew, Hughes, hisgdon, alladyce, Pullis, Moyes, Lambert, Bruce... Everyone talks about British msnagrrsz being given a top job but have any of those shown any level of success? Have any won a cup, challenged for Europe in more than one freak season? They are too comfortable talibg over team in 16th, getting them safe for couple years before being sacked. If don’t think getting chances in England then go abroad, go manage in France / Spain / Germany etc where might be able to show you can win something b
And let's not forget has dazzling work at QPR, by the time they booted out Hughes in 2012/13, they had won and had 4 points from 12 games, this being after he'd had free reign in the summer and spent a fortune in the transfer market. And surprise, surprise they got relegated that season, but nothing to do with Hughes, nah.
This CV highlight: Never got relegated from the Premier League is not really one that would fill me with confidence. It normally means they were that bad they got sacked before they could finish the job. The ones who get relegated are the ones like Rafa who are brave enough to take on these jobs with 10 games or so left. I actually dont think Hughes or Pulis would be a bad short term choice. No money to spend - just player motivation and team selection. It won’t be pretty but who cares at this stage. Give a mill for the job with a 5mill bonus if they stay up. Just don’t make the mistake of keeping them on if they do keep them up.
Well it must be Hughes then, Pulis is currently laughing his tits off at Boro! I think Hughes is a managerial dinosaur now, hope they get him.
