Absolute class. And I bet he never once threw himself to the ground , grasped his face or tried to get someone sent off
RIP.

RIP,.
In a Team full of entertainers, he was THE BEST.

Worth remembering that he played at a time when the rules were not quite what we are used to today.
Defenders were allowed more scope for the 'creative approach' to their craft.
And he was a marked man.
IF they could catch him, he got kicked.

What would be an appropriate tribute to this amazing player?

A silence or applause before every game I expect.

Personally I'd like to see the whole Football programme suspended this weekend, but, given the commercial implications, that's never going to happen.

Why ?
I've thought about it and I can't understand why suspending fixtures would be appropriate :emoticon-0145-shake

A minute (or two) silence (or applause) for every game this weekend would be ideal for a man that graced many football grounds and inspired millions :emoticon-0105-wink:

Not old enough to remember him playing but my dad reminds me just how good he was. RIP Pele
I always try to avoid comparisons with different generations,, so that is why I say he was the greatest of his generation. However, I do often wonder how his sublime skills would have been like with the lighter boots and ball of contemporary football, not forgetting the improved training and diets enjoyed by footballers today.

I bet suspending matches in is honour is something that Pele would have hated.

I take your point but the minute or two of silence/clapping is the routine response of Fans showing their affection for admired players who have passed away.

There was nothing routine about Pele.
He was head and shoulders above those mere mortals who were merely Very, Very, Good.

In a perfect World, where commercialism had no place in Sport, my suggestion might have had some merit.
But of course it's not realistic in practice
