We certainly are,If we loose today i am going to say we are in for one hell of a battle to stay out of the bottom six. Yes i had us down for top six,how wrong i was. However after SLs comments about a tilt for the promised land,i really thought some quality signing would arrive and we would push on. Sadly the whole pre-season and the start to the season has been one big flop.
Of course your not in a relegation battle. The seasons only just kicked off. Teams have come from near bottom to promotion in this league in the past. Sunderland , Reading , I think Palace were just above the relegation zone in December and shot up to the play off places. Seems crazy to say you wont pay over the odds and offer silly money for someone like Gayle. Massively overpriced offer. If Cotterill did have that sort of money and you do struggle then its his fault. That sort of money could have got you 4 or 5 good players at this level. It seems to me as though Cotterill has confidence in the players hes got. If hes right you will soon move up the league. Apart from Hull all the teams ive seen this season have been poor. Looks like the weakest Championship for years.
Read the thread again before getting arsey and notice the comment about not supporting Cotterill is not under your comment.
'the start to the season has been one big flop' I suppose it depends on your expectations before a ball was kicked. I thought it would be difficult and it will be the entire season. The results haven't come for us due to a few basic defensive errors and 1 daft challenge but the football played at AG this season has been fantastic. I feel so 'pumped' about City right now. I see every red shirt and manager doing their utmost to win football matches in a league where we have to fight way above our weight. Just to survive.
A couple points, one is since 25th AUGUST I have been partly paralysed down my right side and unable to do a lot, let alone go on a 400 mile trip to deepdale As for Cotterill failing if you read things I am only stating what you have said the goalie was man of the match and the draw warranted a little less than magnificent. And most things are on the side of support. Wanting him to fail, In the beginning I was not 100% in favour of him being manager, throughout last season, I made comments that improved to about 98%, but still had a niggling doubt although we achieved so much. 2% DOUBT is not quite 100% behind him, anyone that says I am 100% behind the manager and criticises anything he does is being hypocritical, would I change him ......... NO ....... even if at Christmas we were bottom 8, maybe even bottom 4! Heaven forbid we got relegated, which I do not think will happen,I think he should be tasked with bringing us back up!
We will have to spend £10 million+ in the January transfer window. 5+ players are needed 3 midfielders 2 strikers and 2 defenders would be ideal. Our squad is weak and we have no back up. We can't change the game via tactics and every team has sussed us out. A creative midfielder is a must as is the ability to play 442 and a fast cb. Wilbs needs competition and an alternative striker is needed for days like today. If we don't spend then we will go down and Its tempting to put money on us being bottom at Christmas. Lets get things clear we do not have a good side and it will not magically sort itself out. Most of the players we have in our side are not good enough or consistent enough in their performances for us to maintain our championship status. As Wizered says, pay up or go down its as simple as that. Something is not right behind the scenes and will end up costing us big time. I wonder whether SC was interviewed for the Leicester job and the board have lost confidence in him?
Until the board, or whoever else is making the decisions behind closed doors, decides that they actually might have to spend money for once to strengthen the team then we are doomed. I don't think they are capable, or willing, to make those kind of investments, so hang on to your hollyhocks because it might get worse. I used to back up some comments with "I hope not" but I have lost the will to think that way anymore - how sad is that?
The board had their chance to invest in a squad capable of consolidating its place in the Championship before the season started, but they didn't or maybe wouldn't. As I've said elsewhere, if we are in the bottom 3 come January, players of the quality we need just to survive will not want to join us for the obvious reason.
