In terms of chart hits and without checking, only the Police would be anywhere near the Jam between 79-82.
Paul Weller? He was ok in The Jam who were alright, but since then he's become the guru of dad rock ie bore rock! Oh and for the record The Police piss on The Jam from a great height!
**** yeez...part trois ( this is a great excuse to trawl old vids ....good thread mate , never mind these nay-sayers... . they know nothing of the modern world In fact, Im having an official Jam day today...wheres me black and white mod shoes and paisley pattern scarf now.....?
If you want to just rely on chart "hits" and not actual "Impact" or sucess outside the petty confines of the UK music scene (and all it's vagaries) then you may be right, i'm sure Jive Bunny had a lot of chart success. If you want to look at album sales, live gig ticket sales and other factors then the Jam are nowhere men.

In your opinion. I thought they were decent. Style Council was an abortion and Wellers solo stuff is nauseatigly twee and sef indulgent crap and he is a monumental prick, in my opinion. 77 -79 they were one of the biggest bands in Britain. Late 70's The Stranglers were a bigger band - FACT. And the music press hated them so they did it off their own bat.
I like the Jam but I wouldn't cite them as having any great influence on the music scene or on me. Weller wrote some decent pop songs. The band I hate most from the 80s are the Police. Bunch of pretentious bollocks and Sting is an utter, utter **** of a man.
Joe Dolci not in there Dev? Did you know that The Raven by Stranglers was robbed of going straight in at number 1 due to sales being misappropriated to The Police's new album? Not a lot of people know that.
I don't have to defend The Police, I know how good they were/are and the Jam simply could not polish their instruments, but this debate is not about the Police, it's about The Jam and we seem to be in agreement.
only introverted spotty teenagers with no sense of wee being or worth liked The Jam. like Weller himself. ****er.
My dad loves ELO to the point where he pretty much refuses to consider anyone else as musicians, apart from Supertramp Any time me or my brother go down to my parents house he puts them on and asks us if we like them, not stopping until we say yes. He wanted to call my brother Jeff and me Lynne, but my mum stopped him
Lasses and pretentious ****ers. Look at the names of their albums: Outlandos d'Amour, Reggatta de Blanc, Zenyattà Mondatta. Plus I would happily jump up and down on Sting's testicles until tantric sex was an impossibility.
