To me he's underrated, he doesn't get the credit he deserves and he should've been in the England squad that went to euro 2012, not that i'm complaining, he should be resting for the new season, also he doesn't like to have the attention on him, which i can understand, i would be like that if i was him, when players like Xavi, say he's the best midfielder in the last 20 years, i think people take it for granted about how god he is, i mean people bang on about Scott Parker, all he does is 5 yard passes i can do that, the reason why people underrated him is because he plays for United that's the only reason.

There loss our gain in the end.

As for underrated.... not really, praise from Xavi and many others shows he is very highly rated. The fact he is quite modest is the reason the press and such are not raving about him. He doesnt need them to, hes that good.

Didn't Scholes retire from international football?

because the England manager kept playing him on the left.

I know but I thought he said he'd never play again.

Plus I wouldn't call him underrated, maybe by fans of other clubs but former players and pundits etc are always quick to praise him, I mean Zidane even said he is the best midfielder in history in some words.

Well said <ok>

Scholes has always been highly rated, even at 37... remind me why this is a talking point all of a sudden?

As for the national call up for the Euros, the last 3 England managers have tried to get Scholes out of retirement and failed, as much as I don't agree with many of Woy's current squad selections, why would he even try to call up Scholes when he's made it pretty clear he's done with it all?

And comparing Scholes and Parker is ridiculous, they are completely different types of midfielders who are in their respective teams to do completely different jobs, jobs which they both do very well I might add.

To be honest this seems like a pretty pointless thread.

Matth would not like the attention!!

Scholes is not underrated. He has a lot of admirers of him especially world class players like Xavi who all look up to Scholes and admire him as a player. Then you have players like Zidane who said his biggest regret was not playing alongside Scholes.

England were the only ones who treated him like dirt, playing him in the wrong position and i don't blame him for retiring from international football.

Neither do i, he made the choice n the end.

He was hardly treated 'like dirt'. He was played on the left when he was the best man for the job. Gerrard managed to do it without retiring.

Also, no-one underrates Scholes.

Prepare for a scandal here as I'm going to say something controversial. Paul Scholes is not and has never been under rated.

If anything, he is marginally over rated.

For the so called 'best centre midfielder of his generation' or 'the complete centre midfielder' he gives the ball away far, far too often, is **** at tackling/dirty as **** (take your pick) and get's himself booked and sent off needlessly far too often.

The truth might hurt but that is the truth.

Great player but Keane was better.

But Scholes makes United tick.
