Not realy a gamble, he's only a few months retired, so he should still have most of his ability. Id definately much prefer to see Scholes in our midfield, than any of the other numpty's we currently have
Well that was a shock. But not one that makes no sense. Im excited about this.
Fergie has been very vocal against the january transfer market recently and i see this as a move to cover the team (and add a bit of quality) Until he goes for something permanent in July.
I certainly dont see it as the sign of desperation others have called it.

Its a bit of cover too see us through injurys and into the summer when Fergie likes to make signings. I see this as an admission the midfield is not up to scratch and that is a good thing to me. Maybe we wont have to persist with them next season.
Scholes was well past his peak yes, but he wasn't ****.
Paul Scholes is probably the best central midfield player we've ever had. He may not have been at his very best last season, but even a 50% Scholes, is still a top class player, and better than Carrick, Anderson, Fletcher etc
Agreed, but most United fans won't. Is it because he's past it or just that he has not played a competitive match in months. I hope its the former.
You'd maybe play him against a team like Wigan...as a subsitute.
But would you start him against a Chelsea or a Spurs or even Man City in a league game for example? United need to spend cash and get some people in...that midfield is dire.
Scholes was an absolute liability today imo. Gave the ball away for City's second goal and gave at least two hospital passes. He didn't offer anything going forward, and he just dawdled around in defence in completely pointless positions where he was almost never going to get the ball.
I seriously hope he's only there as a stopgap until we buy someone else, or Cleverley is back to full fitness. I think we need to accept that Utd, and the PL as a whole, may never see another playmaker as good as Scholes. But he is past it now and we need to stop looking for a Scholes replacement and start looking for midfielders that will be great in their own way, not average in a Scholes replacement kind of way.

He was good at playing keep ball. But he did not that killer pass he used to have in the past . maybe we should give him more time as it is his first match.
It DOES smack of desperation. He may be good when we are winning 4-0 but will he just slow the team down whenever we are desperate for a goal? I cannot wait for Cleverley to come back to fitness.
Good psychological victory if nothing else. City losing at home for the first time as soon as Yaya Toure is missing.
Depends. If he scores goals and creates problems for defenders you'll have done well. If he gives the ball away three times, half his passes are about five yards long, and he barely makes a tackle all game you'll have made a big mistake...
He wasn't even that great at keep ball. Half the time he just got the ball and passed it five yards when there was no City player anywhere near us. And City had dropped right off at that stage so we were under very little pressure. He may be better in the next game, but I'd honestly rather see Gibson in the team right now.
What's f***ing wrong with United this season? Even in victory they contrive to almost blow it and give some succour to the opposition. They almost snatched an ignominous draw/defeat from the jaws of victory.
This season has been so damn strange. Started well, with good victories and then after that 1-6 match at OT anything that could go wrong has gone wrong. What a bloody roller coaster!

Scholes shouldn't have come back.
Great servant for the club in his day but by the end of last season the legs had gone, and his tackle was (as always) a liability, along with the temper.
Can't see why Ferguson brought him back - shades of Alf Ramsey picking Booby Moore when he was too old.
Both Ferguson and Scholes should know better.
