Got to say always thought if it was not for him there would be no club, gets far too much hassle and grief from supporters and I think he has backed whatever manager as best as he can. I wouldn't want us going out spending money that we don't have. Mr Paul Scally I thank you.
 
"always thought if it was not for him there would be no club", how do you know there would not have been other businessmen willing to invest, I was brought up thinking exactly that but I don't think it is necessarily true.
 
Please don't let get started on "I love Paul Scally v I hate Paul Scally, whats he ever done for the club etc.etc.". Theres more than enough on that on other forums and facebook and twitter. It's so tedious now, so please keep those opinions off of here.

Must admit i agree. As soon has i come on here after work, I saw the title and thought, jeez whats' being wrote now. Nervously clicking open the thread. I have many a serious issue with communication re our club but none of this is aimed as a personal vendetta at our Chairman...no more of a complaint than i would have with any other business. Only difference being is with every other business i get a response!

Therefore i hasten to add any Facebook style Scally out campaign will be removed, this is not the forum for it. Our members don't want it and i don't want it.
 
I left a Facebook group because of it. Whatever subject a thread started with, someone found a reason to have a go at Scally. It was just so very boring.

I agree with you 100% Vinney because I rarely post anything regarding Gillingham on those Facebook forums simply because of the abusive nature of the posts on there

Tedious is the perfect word to describe the facebook forums as swear word this Scally and swear word that appear on a daily basis

We'll always tick along nicely under Scally. He's a sensible businessman. He saved the club, we got into a little bit of mess after we went down from the Championship and he managed to work his way out of it...but that was his mess to clean up.

The issue I have is there is no money to truly invest. We can afford to pay good wages, but I sometimes question who we're paying those wages on. We had to build a team all on frees last year. Martin Allen was a genius when you think about how he built that squad. There was little money last year, there's little money this year and for the foreseeable future there won't be much money either.

What I am looking forward to is the new stadium plan. It helped propel Hull and, if the plans work out as he hopes, it will pay for itself and at the same time generate a decent sum of money for us.

I will be openly critical of what little money there is available to spend whilst he lives it large in Dubai, but his long term vision is a good one.
 
Damo. Leaving aside your Scally Good/evil arguments, I do find your financial analysis absurd. i reckon last year was the "golden" one in financial terms since 2000. Not only did we have the windfall from the Gazzanigga transfer (£2M suggested) but also the sell on fee for Jarvis and the milestone fee for Bertrand. Add to that the financial relief with the departure of the big earners from Dimson's era who had been such a burden for Hessy (Oli, Fuller, Weston,King, Richards) and you had the best financial position in memory.
So what happened? MA blew the lot dishing out Long contracts to players in their twilight, ditching low cost youngsters like Essam and paying high salaries to poor performers. What was left in the kitty was then blown in a most wasteful way with the spent force of Akinfenwa, the questionable wisdom of Macdonald and the amazingly irresonsible purchase of Linganzi whose troublesome hamstrings have allowed him less than 30 games in 5 seasons. It was not surprising MA upset Scally, it was the squandering of money that caused the upset not the league position.

Nelson...free.
Barrett...free.
Legge...free.
Allen...free.
Weston...free.
Linganzi...free.
Akinfenwa...free.
German...free.

These were either free agent pick ups or free transfers.

We didn't 'purchase' Linganzi...he was out of contract and chose to renew it at a higher level. I think we reached a settlement over McDonald paid to terminate his contract.

That money wasn't all made available to spend. I'd be amazed if much of it was issued at all to be honest.

So tell me, what 'money' has he 'squandered'? Absolute jack. We didn't pay a penny for these players. Allen was a GENIUS; he took the dregs of League One that nobody wanted with his limited resources and built a League Two title winning side. Unfortunately, that only gets you so far these days.

What 'money' has Taylor spent? People seem to think with these three moves he has money available. These are two loan moves and a free agaent. Nothing more. I'd be amazed if we're paying a penny of the two loanee's wages and ***an would have taken the minimum to be given another shot.
 
Transfer fees are totally irrelevant these days. It is salaries and agent fees that eat the money. Think Macdonald = 5 "normal" salaries, Akinfenwa = 3 "normal" salaries and so on. I am guessing at the salary factors but I bet I am not far off. Essam was probably only 40% of a normal salary.
 
I've said this before but one more time,

There is no such thing as a "free" transfer! even when a player is out of contract there will be a signing on fee which can be as high as a transfer fee, the only difference is the fee goes to the player and agent.
 
Free players are free players...players teams generally don't give a hoot about losing. So what if you#re paying a signing on fee? Unless you're going to spend money on players of any value, then you're not going anywhere but where we are; a decent league two side without the pedigree to survive in the higher leagues.

Saying that, his new stadium vision is fantastic and I want him to see it through. That will be a big earner for us,
 
Damo you're wrong in this instance. Bayo has notoriously high wages and he wouldn't have turned down other clubs for us if we weren't at least going to match what he was on at Northampton which was roughly £2500 a week. Players often get a hefty signing on fee usually these days starting at £30,000 so add that to signing on fees of Linganzi, Weston, Barrett etc it quickly goes. MA regularly stated that Scally worked wonders to get Cody Mac but think about the situation. Coventry in administration weren't in a position to pay up his contract just like that. Scally must have paid some fee in order for them to cover the deal. Add to that Cody wouldn't just take a pay cut of four grand a week easily, he probably got quite a big cut of whatever fee Mr Scally paid to Coventry for securing Cody to make up for the pay cut he was facing.

You also fail to remember that most of those players last season actually agreed to sign on the dotted because of Hess. Hessenthaler has always been a great salesman of the club and with him as Director of Football, he was able to persuade the players that Priestfield was the place for them. In the summer Mad Dog generally signed to bring in new players after losing Hess as DoF as his FIFO technique is very hard to sell to certain players. Don't get me wrong I loved MA as our manager but it was clear to see where the money went. Even though there was some money left, the chairman was hardly going to give someone the funds for new players when his exit was ever looming.
