Yep. Apparently the betting is that England is more likely to win the World Cup again than the RS of winning the premier league for the first time
Agreed. I don't think it was ever a case of Fergie not rating Pogba, it was more a case of Fergie standing by his principles, in not allowing some greedy 18 year old kid and his equally greedy agent to hold the club to ransom. Fergie had no problem paying players the mega money, but they had to have earnt the right to be payed that money. Pogba at that stage of his career had done nothing to earn the sort of money they where asking for. Even though we had to pay 80 million to get Pogba back, I still back and admire Fergies decision to **** him and his greedy agent off out of it.
Fergie done some ****ing retarded things, he wasn't immune just because of his status here. He prioritised Tom Cleverley's development over Pogba's. He was wrong to let Pogba leave, people say the boy became a man at Juve but there's nothing to say he wouldn't be even better if he stayed here. Apart from Moyes, Moyes would have ****ed him.
Fergie did what had served him well for years as a manager, and that was try to keep a young players feet on the ground. Fergie always dealt with young players the same, and he wasn't about to throw all his principles out the window and give into a greedy kid and his agent, and open the flood gates for all promising youngsters to ask for mega contracts. Look at the young players Fergie brought through in his time with us, and that was by managing them the way he knew would get the best out of them. And just because 1 arguably backfired in hindsight, it does not mean he was wrong to stick to his principles. The same principles that have lead to so many other success story's. I'm sure Fergie knew when he let Juventus have him, that it could backfire, but he wasn't about to change his ways so late in his career, and I admire that.
Fergie refused to do a deal with the devil which ultimately cost United £89m, plus whatever other ****e we've brought in since. He refused to bend and that's why we lost out on top players like Hazard to ****ty little clubs like Chelsea. Ultimately though, he judged the player badly. He should never have prioritised that utter **** Cleverley over Pogba, one of his many bad calls, although he'll never be judged on them by our fans (and rightly so) due to the success he delivered.
Total bullshit and I hate saying that to you. Pogba/his agent demanded guaranteed playing time before he would sign a contract. The few opportunities he had had to play in the first team he looked like a rabbit in head lights so there was no way he was getting that guarantee. Fergie could not force him to sign a contract so did not "let him go" it was Pogba's choice, I doubt very much that players like Giggs, Scholes or Beckham demanded such guarantees at 18 or 30. If Pogba had faith in his ability he should have signed the contract and forced his way into the team like many before him had, if Fergie was in the same position again today I hope he would do the same thing. The bit in bold makes no sense at all
Why should he do a deal with the devil? And turn his back on all his principles that had served him so well. Pogba wanted to play but he was never anywhere near good enough to as a teenager. Cleverly was 3 years older, and a much better player at that stage of their careers. You could see Pogba had the potential, but he needed time to grow before he was thrown into the first team. 89 million is **** all to a club like us, we generate more money than any other side in the world, and that's all thanks to Fergie. The time in Juventus has probably made Pogba the player he is today, as he wasn't good enough to play for us before that. So although it cost us the money it did, it may well have been worth it if we get the best years out of Pogba now.
If we get 5-8 years out of him (easily possible) then with higher league positions and going deeper into European competitions with his help will bring in way more than £89M. Scouser mentality is to buy a player who will have sell on value, reality is buy a player long term who will earn you his fee back plus honours.
That is because Liverpool are still a 2nd tier club, who feed their best players to the likes of Barcelona, City and even Chelsea. Arsenal and Spurs are the same. Genuine big clubs do not operate that way.
United as the club with largest income and the largest global fan base has had a different MO to most. They need to spend big on players as if they are making statements. United have apparently spent £600m since Ferguson left. They did it with Di Maria, with Martial ("the most expensive teenager ever") and Pogba. Yet, they are generating more profit than anyone else including the likes of Barcelona Madrid Bayern. When Pogba was signed for £89m I said United will become even richer by exploiting the fact that United had the "most expensive player in the world" . I have no doubt that they will exploit the "highest paid player in the premiership" to their commercial and marketing advantage.
My best mate is a massive utd supporter and a football reporter for a daily. He ****ing hates him too. Nothing to do with his managerial quality.
