Actually Maynard was the 3rd choice as after the Meteb deal collapsed (damn shame) we then tried to sign Michael Mifsud and this deal was also trumpeted to the media on the open day only for him to arrive to sign day with his agent and 3 new demands. I loved the way it was dealt with by GJ (if true) as it was reported that he listened to the 3 demands and said maybe, no and thank you for attending Michael, this deal is now off... Redprintt, you are in a small minority in your views. I also believe that with our new management team now in full effect, we will be far from relegation fodder and in fact, I think we are more likely to be towards the top end rather than the bottom. Have a bit of faith in McDel - better organisation and leadership than we have had for many a year will bring the best out of the players and ensure a good season...
This would all have been sorted out if GJ & SL had spent his money on the youth academy instead of flash loans from abroad and heaven knows where else. We would now have a generation of 18 yr olds coming through that would change everything. Its about forward planning. Maybe Coppell looked at our youth academy and decided to quit, as he was unlikely to be able to buy success with our resources
BRR - I agree that investing in youth is vital for the club but the problem is one of balancing the future players coming into the team against the actual results on the pitch today. City fans are a fickle bunch and very few would have been happy if we had allowed the team to be relegated whilst securing the foundations of the academy. Hopefully we are bringing the situation under control now and will have a brighter future. Financial fair play makes the academy even more vital. As some have already mentioned, we should be in better hands now under McInnes and his team but we are still likely a work in progress this season and so long as we are not involved in a relegation scrap come Christmas, it will be mission accomplished for 2012/2013.
