A lovely Broad Yorkshire accent. Sounded about 70. "That lovely Phil Parkinson, he's a genius, best manager weve ever had and such a lovely boy......" I nearly crashed. Fair play to him though, hell of a result.

PP done a lot for CAFC. Successful or not, he worked his arse off and even put his own money in (well didn't take a wage to pay for borrowdale). He and waggot were vilified when they should be applauded.
Its the suit and jumper combo wot does it...
I too have a lot of time for Parky and thought he was a top bloke. Though when he was sacked I was quite glad we got rid, as change was clearly needed.
I thought that Parky was a good manager. New board never game him the chance. And always managed to get a result, even with a crap team. Odd embarrassing result, but still did well. Knew how to use subs, to change a game, which is something maybe Powell could learn a thing or two.
Did like Parky, well done to him, and best of luck to him and Bradford in the promotion battle too. A good club, who've had more than their fair share of troubles in recent years, both on and off the pitch.
On CL, many seem to believe that Parky would've got that team to the playoffs when he was sacked. I disagree completely on that (it was a midtable team/manager that had gone on a short, good run and lots of matches postponed) even if I disagreed with the sacking.
More power to him. Did a lot in a tough time.
Can't believe what I'm reading, IMO the man was clueless, tactically inept, screwed players around. How he got the job on a full time basis astounds me, 8 games in charge and no wins, terrible manager.
I know the 8 games without a win should never get a care taker a full time job but he was still the best manager we had since Curbs (until Powell), he stopped a rot that I could easily have seen us doing exactly what Bradford had, kept going down again and again and again. He stopped it and lets not forget, for about 30 minutes in his only full season we were in the auto's. If we had gone up we may well have gone straight back down but he would have done a good job. He got us so close to promotion with less money then I have and i'm a student.
Parky was predictable, I could always guess what minute he'd do a sub and who for but then again I can with Chrissy at the moment (mainly no subs at all). If I ever met Parky in person I would buy him a pint, deserved a chance with money to spend rather then having to use his own money (as I believe he did with Borrowdale) but glad we have Chrissy right now

That post in isolation is completely right, and true of his first half season too.
But he was in the job for 2 years. While ultimately he failed to win promotion back to the Championship, he came really close, especially during the match in Oldham. That in itself was a lot better than some other clubs in a similar situation who went down (eg Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Preston North End).
But he's gone now and we have a great manager.
I liked him. Always spoke well in interviews after the game and did reasonably well with the worst set of players that we have had. Worked his socks off for the club.

Very difficult being told you have to constantly cut back. Especially towards the end when there wasn't much to cut back on.
As I kept telling Houndal the troubles went much higher than Parky. However he had to go because the football was dire, which is why the crowds were usually about 3,000 less than the official figure. We had become a long-ball team.
I liked Parky as a bloke. I think he did the best he could considering the circumstances.

A lot of the criticism of Parky is very harsh. At the time he was with us, his managerial position was probably one of the most stressful in the whole football league - constantly having to sell players; no money being available to sign decent ones; the clubs highest earners on the treatment bench; fans who wouldn't accept him as manager; fans who feel they have a divine right to be in the Premier League let alone The Championsip; demoralised squad etc etc etc
The season he was sacked, our squad was probably one of the worst in Charlton history (McCormack, Francis, Doherty, Racon et al). He had no money so had to make do with freebies and loanees through his tenure, some of whom were very good acquisitions (Burton, Richardson, Dailly in his first season, Reid).
Looking at our squad in the second League One season, its no miracle that they were in the play-off places. He made very very average/poor players look okay, and salvaged a lot of wins.
