He was a nervous wreck in his press conferences. I honestly said at the time of his 3rd one: "he's lost it here". He sat there, head in hands buried on the desk with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was already broken and this was so early on. He pissed off too many senior players led by Ash and they rebelled knowing he'd go before them.

He was only allowed to join in August after protracted wrangling with his obstinate employer and by then all the pre season training and recruitment etc should have been done.

Sacked 4 months later. Didn't really have a fair crack at it.

I love it how our so called fans love to slag previous players and managers. They seem to think they are Sky tv pundits.

I know it was protracted but was it really August? From memory I seem to recall him signing the very day we flew out to a training camp abroad and then Turner signed the day later. I'd have said it was more mid July and he did take pre-season but Im prepared to be proved wrong.

What's a fair crack? If the players don't like you, you won't achieve much.

End of the day that was his downfall.

A fair crack is a full close season, chance to get your staff and methods embedded, get your new players in, ship out the ones you don't want, and get time for the changes to work.

Do you think SAF's players like him?

That's the reason Holloway took the Palace job.

When you look back, Some of our poorer managers (from recent times) have signed some of our better players, Parkinson bought us Ricketts, Turner quite cheaply. Molby bought Stu Elliott, Stuart Green (?) and Ashbee.

I don't keep a diary but I thought it was early August.

I do remember Colchester's **** of a chairman refused to let him go and it dragging on all through summer. Col U's players were ring fenced as were backroom staff.

The bottom line is results and Parky didn't get them. To say he was **** though is pathetic. It was ill-fated and he was (allegedly) let down by the players re ice baths and the like. Mind you he recruited the similarly **** Phil Brown who somehow fluked us into the Prem the following season.....

He didn't, Adam appointed Brown behind Parky's back. PP didn't want Brown here because he knew that from Day 1 Brown wanted his job and he was right.

Ha - fair point they could do but Ive no reason to think that and has been proved right on many, many things. Anyway I'm fairly sure at the time Adam publicly said he brought PB in to help and I don't recall PP ever stating he sourced Brown's help. They'd never worked together previously to my knowledge.

I think they'd been former team mates. There was definitely some connection between them that was spun into the announcement. It was obvious at the time it was at best a last gasp attempt to avoid sacking Parky by bringing in an experienced number 2 who could also step up as manager if it didn't work. The alternative was to sack him straight away and bring the new man in t assess the squad before January, or leave him for longer and then bring a new man in with no time before the transfer window to know what he wanted to change.

It was June 29th when the dispute was resolved and Parky was appointed.

When PB was appointed, it was framed in the media almost as 'this lively chap will lift everyone's spirits on the training ground with his infectious enthusiasm' , like glum PP was depressing everyone.

So he did have a full pre season training then.

it didnt work out, sometimes it doesnt. Stop pretending he was wronged.

Pre season training usually starts in early July, when you would hope to already have all your new players in rather than just starting to assess your squad and search for your backroom staff.
