Athletics underway and velodrome opens tomorrow so we get more of the best two commentators/pundits, Michael Johnson and Chris Boardman. Excellent, I actually learn stuff from these two, unlike the hysterics we’ve had in swimming and gymnastics. I like Steve Cram as well. But we hear yet more of Andrew Cotter, who knows everything about every sport. Apparently.

Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who’s knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered. #Paris2024

This type of mismatch is not really new Kiwi. Anyone old enough to remember Olympic games in the time of the USSR and the GDR can remember how those countries produced generations of female shot putters, discus throwers and other amazons whose sexual identity could have been questionable, and who set World records which still stand today - I wouldn't have fancied a clout round the ear from any of them. But they didn't have women boxing then.so there was less of a discussion about it.

If you want to be a pedant, the correct terminology is round down to...

I was told many years ago, that people found rounding down or up numbers still bedazzled them.
I found my encyclopedia collection of Funk & Wagnalls gave the best terminology.

The correct terminology that everyone understands is, 'pubic hair'.
As in, "That person won by a pubic hair!" Then, everyone will understand how close the race was.

Further Update .................

Upon delving further into the Funk & Wagnalls ............ to my knowledge the term ' Half a pubic hair ' circumstances are known to have happened in the Olympics, however, with the modern day trend of shaving where once, there was none, these circumstances are considered, rare.

If they used the hair on your head as the measurement I'd always lose...<laugh>

GB struggling to win golds, but that might change a bit in the velodrome.

Netherlands beating GB in women’s hockey, decidedly a non spectator sport, though it obviously involves a lot of skill. Dangerous too, my daughter used to play county level (u18s) and had multiple injuries involving sticks and more often the astroturf surfaces - many an afternoon in A&E as she took the skin off to the knee bone.

Poor old Laura Kenny trying to educate Balding in the studio, but fighting a losing battle with that mutant !

The big one tonight Kerr v Ingebrigtsen. Huge amount of bad blood and boasting between the two, the loser, even if it’s by a whisker, will be humiliated.

The Norwegian is undoubtedly faster but the Scot is a better (ie nastier) racer and seems to have the mentality.

What a hoot if someone else won.
