On the upside this thread made me think about and reconnect with an old pal.

Linkedin not Facebook.

Facebook is just wrong!

Patently enough to make a plane sized hole in the side of a building that's facia was primarily glass in a steel fame.

You're wasting you time mate. He ignores every debunking of the nonsense he regurgitates on this subject and will merely come back with another cut and paste

A steel frame.
People think this when you say "steel frame"

Unfortunately it doesn't have to be the masses.

What doesn't? Dont get me wrong, they are twisting the ideology, but if you're saying the intolerance and extremism is bcos of wahabbism then that would affect the masses surely? Billions of them. Bcos you're suggesting it's the doctrine.

To explain the point better, having read up (by chance) about wahabbism I used to think the same as you. Until I spoke to muslims about it and the first thing one of them said is "what is wahabbism?" He knew what it was, and he knew what I meant, but what he was getting at is it's been around for a century and practised by most sunni muslims without any regard for what it is. The doctrine itself is limited spiritually but doesnt in itself cause extremism otherwise law abiding muslims in this country and across the world would all be intolerant and extreme.

I mean it doesn't need to be the majority who commit the terrible acts we have been seeing.

I dont mean to dwell on this, but if it is the doctrine then it would be the majority surely? I think the wahabbi thing is overplayed tbh. The shia are just as militant. The only difference is they are protected by pariah states so dont need to go to the extremes ISIS do. I'd like to think the shia are a bit more cultured as well for that. Another difference between sunni and shia imo.

It depends how each person interprets it really. We are seeing an element now take wahhabism literally. Most don't. As you alluded too earlier, they follow it without really paying too much attention to it.

I don't disagree that they are equally militant. However they are massively outnumbered and currently under threat from a fraction of that majority intent on either forcing then to convert of slaughtering them.

Isis is creating a divide between the two. Shai Muslims are attacking Sunni Muslims in the aftermath of towns and cities being liberated from Isis.
