I don't think he will get the job and I doubt he will leave for Tottenham because if he is going to turn down the England job then he would not leave for Tottenham, personally I think if Redknapp gets the England job which is like 98% chance, then it could be Jose for the Spurs if he leaves Real Madrid or they will go for Hughton, Moyes or maybe even Ian Holloway, he is a good manager so he could have a chance.

Sorry fairly well does not begin to describe it, exceptional is the word when you look how tough qualifying is these days.

Drawing against Switzerland and Montenegro at Wembley brings it down from being 'exceptional'. As for the WC10 qualifying, yes, they were great then, but the team was full of players who'd been embarrassed by not qualifying for Euro '08 and had something to prove - Any half decent manager would have got similar results.

And he hasn't managed this once, but twice. As for the excuses around winter breaks, these are the same excuses the bumbling FA reel out. It doesn't help the national team. If you're against the winter break then you have no right to complain about England failing in summer tournaments. You can't have your cake and eat it. Logisitical? Simply solved with a bit of non monetary thinking. The league cup is dropped in tournament years to aid the national side. Oh no we can't do that, we'd upset too many sponsors.

Could be done, but I think a lot of the teams competing for the cup would be unhappy with that. There is currently a divide between football clubs and the national team, and that needs to be addressed.

The tournament was tough going no doubt. The margins are small in international football. If your fitness is not up to scratch it will tell. Very few teams (unless you have Spain/Argentina/Germany/Holland type quality) go through tournament groups with ease. We don't and shouldn't kid ourselves we do have their talent. Fortunately Capello had started to blood the next generation who may have technical levels to compete somewhere near these teams.

The problem is that he'd taken too long to blood them, as shown by the fact he brought James, Heskey and Carragher to the World Cup, and wanted to bring Scholes. At that WC he was a guy with no new ideas, so relied players who were well past their prime. There's also a big question raised by taking Ledley King, who, as everybody knows, is not healthy.

There very few bad international teams now. Even Spain lost to the Swiss last time round (their manager noted how poor condition the players from England were in), and the Germans were ran very close by the Ghanians. Incidentally that same Ghanian team only managed to get past the USA from Englands group after extra time. This highlights how close these games are now, and how being off your game (Rooney) or tired (the whole squad) can make it a tough examination.

Perhaps there are fewer 'bad' teams now, but Algeria and Slovenia are still miles away from were England should be (based on the players available). Rooney is often 'off his game', so the question needs to be asked why Capello still relies on him and hesitated to give other strikers a real chance for the team, not just at the WC but throughout his entire tenure. If Rooney was fit, Rooney played, regardless of his form. Again, it's another example of a guy who has no ideas whatsoever.

I'd still have expected better and so would Capello. He performed badly, as did the players who should not be absolved of all blame. A manager can lead the horse to the water, but he can't make it drink. But what is the point in not taking the learning from the tournament and improving? Capello admitted he'd made mistakes and was keen for another shot, with the experience behind him. He was given 6 objectives and achieved them all bar getting to the QF of the 2010 cup.

I'm not saying the players should be absolved of blame at all, but ultimately Capello is the one who chose the squad and the teams. It is his job to motivate them and get the strategy right, and he failed both of those responsibilities.

We've now forced him out by undermining him and are left with an absolute shambles to sort out.

Taking the captaincy away from Terry was the only choice. You can't have a guy going into court for something like racism leading your country into a major tournament. It's not just a football issue, but a political issue as for a lot of people the national team represents the country.

Motivation is no problem for Capello. He has a 67% win ratio, the best of any England manager in modern history. So we'll have to agree to disagree on his qualification record.

He couldn't blood the young players any quicker, they weren't ready for 2010. We have to accept we had a poor pool in 2010. We now have some talent coming through who he was getting ready for 2014. Cleverley, Wiltshire, Sturridge, Walker, Smalling, Jones, Welbeck, Gibbs have all been introduced. They are just about ready on the whole and he has timed it nicely for them to get a taste this time following on from the 21's, to be experienced and peaking for 2014. We have to be patient, we're progressing, the technical players are coming. Are they as good as their Spanish counterparts of the same age? Maybe not but the gap has closed. Brooking has worked hard for Capello and is the beacon of hope at the FA. He accepts we're miles behind as shown by we had 20,000 less UEFA qualified coaches than Spain, Germany and Holland at the time of 2010.

They should never have got involved in the captaincy. This is evidenced by the support for Capello's stance by the games leading managers. Their opinion carries more weight than some old fart at the FA. They had three better choices. One delay the court case and let the manager pick him if he wished. At a push you could say they could have made him unavailable for selection altogether. But the reality is this should have been pushed through the courts by everyone (FA, Terry, Chelsea, courts) so an informed decision could be made. Its farcical. We have an american boxer who has been actually convicted of beating his wife able to delay a prison sentence for the sake of his and the states bank balances, yet we can't push this through for the sake of game.

The issue of the winter break does need sorted out. But not by talking to the clubs, it needs direct action from a strong FA to dictate what happens in tournament years. They're too afraid of the big clubs though. Well **** them I want a national team ready to go to war rather than limping into major tournaments. They're weak and its holding us back. They can let Man U skip a FA Cup but can't re-jig the tournaments and include a break for the sake of our national game.

Rooney is tough one but you have to remember he was unbelievable in qualifying (9 in 9) so you've built your team around him. He is world class and one of the few we have of that ilk.

Our problem was that we just failed on the big games, e.g. Germany and any team who had quality, many of them wins come against countries you expect to win against.

just saw Pard's comment's on his name being mentioned in the contenders for the England job(not that he expects to get it).

He said he's got an unfinished project at Newcastle and is going to see it through,he also said how amazing the Toon support is.

Lad's you've got a good'un there and if we dont get 4th i hope the Toon do.

Howay the lads.

Afraid to say I think Chelsea will get 4th place, we'll be 7th.

I think it'll be Harry. The only sticking point is whether Spurs will allow him to do it on a part time basis. Certainly would not be my choice as I think we'll go backwards with the likes of Terry, Lampard and the ones who need left behind being first choice under him. Its a bit of a poisoned chlaice really, who'd want the job when you'll be undermined like that.

Got more respect for Capello than ever. Put his principles over money and did well to disassociate himself from our comical footballing body. We really are going to be badly prepared unless they do the sensible thing and give Pearce the job who at least knows the current system, the mistakes made in SA, recent tournament management experience and a burning ambition for his country to do well. I liked Capello, a top boss. Only lost two competitive games and was badly let down by the players at crunch time (Rooney mainly). The problem is in this country we're very impatient. The rest of Europe know we're behind technically but we refuse to accept it. We can never seem to let an international boss have more than one or two tournaments in charge so they can improve. Just because the guys you employ in international roles are at the top of the game, doesn't mean they stop learning.

Capello had started to blood the next generation and seemed likely to take a good mix this summer, I hope we don't get Saggy Harry going for one last drink in the last chance saloon with the so called golden generation

Lampard will be the undroppable midfielder with 'Arry in charge. Nephew and all that

They say he has a release clause in his contract... Lower... Lower than that...

Think if it is Redknapp Spurs will demand he stays until the summer to ensure CL qualification. Then they can lure a big continental coach. Maybe not as big as Mourinho though it depends how far Spurs push the Manchester clubs and what arrangements are made wrt Modric, Bale and spending money.
