Nolan left because he was offered a fantastic contract. At over 30 years old, I don't blame him for leaving. He scored 30+ goals in 2 very important seasons. I will never boo the bloke. He was offered a long term contract on 60k+ a week, and anyone would take that.

Barton was on a free because he obviously didn't fit into Pards plans. I would love to have Cabaye first choice with Barton as a back up, but Barton obviously wasn't worth the wages and the problems. Getting rid of him was worth it.

Carroll works amazing in the right system. Pardew loves the lad, and If he's willing to pay that much for him, I think we should trust his judgement. I love Carroll also.

<ok> Indeed and Pardew has made it clear that he was told that he could not have Nolan and Cabaye. He has repeated this in the last couple of days saying he "couldn't afford it". Just normal football business that worked out well for all parties.

Wow that's news to me.. DIdn't know that Nolan left cos of a better contract, but we're better off without him, he offers nothing to his game except his goalscoring, and he is losing his pace with every added year and it gets worse there...

As for Barton, I remember that he did something atrocious and the club made a stand that they had had the last straw. And then put him up for sale for free, on which QPR snapped him up. I think Pards might still have had plans for him, since he's a decent technical player, however as you said, he wasn't worth the wages and problems(more importantly problems of course). Now I might've recalled it, he had tweeted something blasphemous to the board or something didn't he

Several comments on Twatter led to Joeys demise but I think the board had it in mind to get rid from the moment he got himself into bother. Hence the wage reduction request. Pardew clearly wanted to keep him but he'd made his bed as far as the board were concerned. Seemed a bit crazy at the time given his performances and part he played in our revival but its never about one player and has worked out well. He never gave up the twatter so it would only have spiraled.

Nolan had to go to make room for Cabaye which was the correct decision. In an ideal world you'd have retained him as back up but the club couldn't sustain all the wages while he had 60k and first team football available to him. Just the way it goes.
