Whilst I strongly believe (see posts passim) that Ashley is playing a form of Moneyball game with Newcastle. And, perhaps rightfully so, but the problem is that the manager isn't canny enough to make it work.

So, this week and this week only, my thoughts are: Pardew Out, Ashley In.

Next week I will be off the Penderyn gin and I may have different thoughts then.

But isn't finishing 10th part of the definition of playing moneyball?

The media can be very powerful in mind games. Many of our fans expect P45DUE to stay now, and be completely exonerated for last season's near total collapse from January. I may have missed it but have the club officially announced this? The comparison for me is Sherwood at Spurs. They finish 6th top, are in Europe and the guy has shown to steady the ship with ease - yet he's sacked. We play relegation football for almost 5 months and the manager is fine to carry on the good work.

I'm not stating that the fella was the main reason for last season's torturous 2014, but many would say that he should have been sacked for the headbutt alone, or the Sunderland display alone, or the FA cup game alone.

And now we get a journalist picking £60m out of thin air and some of us are naming £15m players who we think will be pulled straight over that line ...

If Pardew spells out to Ashley what the minimum spend is required to secure at least a top 17 place, he'll be asked if he really wants to keep his job.

I can only see a drawn out, 'see who blinks first' transfer window, culminating in lies from the grey one. Leopards seldom change their spots and Mike Ashley's main interest is his wealth accumulation with his main business, of which, we are an advertising board in sum total. My faith in our management stands for very little these days.

Ashley might sell though, if a big bid is offered.

Ashley and P45DUE are going to form a comedy duo and go around the Music Halls called The Chuckle Brothers.

When the Telegraph ran that £60m story, I bet over 99% of fans thought ‘that will never happen’, but when you take into account that this is roughly what the vast majority of clubs will have spent over the course of last summer and this forthcoming summer, and that comes before you start taking into consideration things like the Yohan Cabaye £20m windfall.

The club is now turning over vast amounts of money without having to try (could be a lot lot more if Ashley wasn’t curbing both Commercial and Matchday revenues), although failure to invest could kill the Newcastle owner’s golden goose – unless he realises that staying in the Premier League isn’t a foregone conclusion.

This link shows that Cardiff bagged £62m from the PL television deal and they finished bottom.

Liverpool bagged over £95m so obviously we made somewhere in between that...

Let's see how much Ashley keeps this time around <grr>

The thing that perhaps Parspew and Cashley have overlooked is that the players themselves have to actually WANT to come to a selling club, with dire performances and - literally - a nutter for a manager. I honestly believe these two fcking morons have managed to convince each other that all it takes is a bit of shrewd investment when in reality we'll be lucky to end up with JPF's shocking list (Ewanks-Blake et al).

They live in a fcking bubble where Parspew really, genuinely believes he's a "top 5" manager and where he equally believes that he's capable of doing this job. Because Ashley is such a tiny minded tw@t he only really listens to Parspew and the people who either work for him or Alan. All four of them. They're all happy with their lot - there's no real ambition, thus doing their jobs is eminently fcking easy. Worst run in 20+years? Never coming from behind? Regular 3-0 or worse thrashings? Barely get past the first round of any cup? Pah. Doesn't matter, we're 10th. These guys like Stone, Carver and the boss himself must laugh themselves to fcking sleep at night.

There will be no mass influx of players. There will be no big spend. There will be no happy ending here.

Great post. The thing is I do think we will buy this summer but of mostly a **** quality. If we attempt to go cheap on the strikers front it will be the end of us.

I reckon they will make a signing in the next few weeks, now who will it will be f**k knows but if its some overrated **** like saha or a complete clogger it will be a good indication of the sort of riff raff tnat could be coming here in the summer.

Most of us don't want 60 million spent (and we all know it won't anyway) but would happily take 35-40 million with a new manager with fresh ideas, diverse tactics, better man management and the ability to get more out of the team than the current ebola in human form we have as manager now.

Maybe I'm wrong because my knowledge of money ball pretty much is limited to watching the movie on a plane while half three sheets to the wind, but my question is this: isn't the point of money ball to win? (Or at least come close).

I think what we are doing here is playing 'Ashleyball' where you pootle around in mid-table mediocrity playing the most boring inept stuff possible, all the while extracting as much money in free advertising from the club as possible, and giggling maniacally while you roll your fat naked body around in piles of cash. Or something like that at any rate.

Mate, if you're going to put up Ew**ks-Blake and Doctor Who as your poster boys, you're gonna have to be prepared for the inevitable infamy.
