I wonder if signing Cisse could be a similar effect as when Keegan signed Asprilla, "Asprilla was blamed as one of the reasons Newcastle would go on to concede the 1995/96 Premier League title to eventual winners Manchester United", could Cisse upset the balance of the team and Ba's out and out front man.

We have seen it here, Jones left when Djibril Cisse came, Djibril Cisse went when Bent came, Bent went when Gyan came, Gyan went because he was a money grabbing twat...........

If there was ever a season for a team to sneak past and into those top spots it might be this one. Arsenal are defensively wobbly, Liverpool inconsistent and lacking guile, Chelsea aging and lacking confidence.

For the record I doubt they will do it. I think they are in a false position but if you are in February and in with a shot (which they are, sorry fellow Sunderland supporters) then they should bust a guy to try and do it. I am pretty sure the chances of European football are what convinced Ashley to buy another proper striker and refuse to sell any key assets, until the summer at least. He likes a silly gamble after all.

Will they fail? My gut feeling odds calculator says 95% but if we were in their position, I would expect us to put our bodies on the line and do whatever we could to make it - those 5% chances do win once in a while. No doubt Toonies will think I belittle their odds but whatever, at least I agree they have a chance.

I actually think both Sunderland and Newcastle may emerge in the next year or two as part of a new big 8. All power to it I say - I would die happy watching us stuff em in a European final.

We have the same pessimism. Other team's fans have been saying how we have a chance of top 4, yet we still say it as hypotheticals expecting nothing. I still maintain 7th would be a brilliant season.

Pardew's a smug bastard, which is why I don't like him.

That could be it, he has abit of the Harry Redknap about him in that it's the teams/players fault when they lose but it was his doing when they win?

Dont agree with this one bit. Pardew is one of the most honest managers out there, happy to admit fortune at getting away without concedeing a penalty etc etc.... could it be your missus fancies the silver fox? ;)

'Arry is just a crooked saggy faced **** who lies through his teeth at every opportunity

This luck thing really does make me laugh.

Blackburn didn't equalise because they are ****. We scored 2, 1 deflection but that's all Brighton beat us by, nothing said then? It's swings and roundabouts.

Was beating Man Utd lucky, was beating you lot lucky? We were robbed against Chelsea and Liverpool scored their 2nd from a free kick that never was. It has gone against us on many occasions as well as going for us. We're 5th on merit, some of you spasticated lot are too bitter to admit it.

If we get into Europe, I will be delighted, and it would have been earned over 38 games.

I bet it makes some of you sick to the bone, although you won't admit it, that without Demba and Tiote we have actually done ok, even though some of you were predicting you would be ahead by now.

You are 20 years old, got a cobb on and spout like a woman. When I was 20, I fought around 30/40 amateur boxing fights and believe me I winged about life and was a bit of a menace to anyone against Safc. It goes well beyond footie mate, to care, love & adore but to your own end, as a Sunderland supporter, I do hope your team does get into europe, in style as well. My dad supports the mags, I love him to bits and if I dont smile this season, I hope he does.. <ok>
