Perhaps Ashley feels that if Pardew has another good season then the big clubs or Enfland may come knocking and then a lengthy contract will benefit him? No reason why Newcastle can't achieve top six this year.

Not really. We had a **** period of games during the christmas time last year, and we stuck by him. We've had bad runs at times, and yes we've criticised him for bad tactics sometimes, but we've never called for his sacking, or really turned on him.

<laugh> lol @ the addition of the word "fortunate". And It was all all bullshit rumours.

I need to find these crystal balls you guys seem to be using. They need to be smashed, as they keep predicting the wrong things.

Anything else I need to refute? Or are you going to admit to talking our of your arse?

And, as others have said, Ashley is a smart businessman and not stupid, he wouldn't just hand him an 8 year contract without a good reason.

And lets not forget that contracts in football are pretty worthless anyway.

Wonder if Ashley has written in a clause in case England want Pards at some point in the future . Don't laugh , Steve McLaren got the job one time.

Let's not forget, it's not just pardew who got 8 years, it's his whole coaching set up as well. To me, pardew has done a cracking job and he and his team have done it working with in mike Ashley's constraints and seem happy enough to do it. Ashley is on to a good thing with pardew and like wise, pardew won't get a better gig than Newcastle. It's the message behind the deal that is more important for me. We all know contracts aren't worth the paper they are printed on in football but the bloke has a nice safety blanket now and is free to get on with it. Only thing confussing me is the timing. It's not like pardew is in his last year on his existing deal but we don't know the ins and outs of what they have agreed on. If this is pointing towards solid stability then it can't be a bad thing no matter how we look at it from an nufc point of view.

to be honest, i don't really get the timing of it either, it's not like he's under any doubt or pressure whatsoever and had another 2 or 3 years left?

given it's obvious that there is some clause or something in there that prevents it being a de facto 8 year contract, it just seems a bit pointless too? he's not going anywhere any time soon, but i doubt there's a person in the land who believes this 8 year contract is 100% set in stone, so why make such an outlandish statement?

Sir John Hall gave Keegan a ten year one didn't he?

I'll say one thing for Keegan mind, he never held the club to ransom.

He just walked, a bit like Keane did with us.
They'd both have been entitled to sit & wait for the pay off at the end of the day.

Eight years, he can get out after four, under the British Judicial system. Best they tag him as well.

I think it's another sensible move by Ashley, adding more stability to the club.

To begin with I imagined Pardew was brought in as a nodding dog to go along with whatever Ashley had in store for the club, and I think Ashley probably thought the same. Pardew has however, proved many people wrong along the way in his 2(?) years at the club. Whilst people will argue that he has had unbelievable service from his staff and he's not due as much credit as he's being given, he is still doing fantastically well with his resources and deserves backing.

Newcastle started throwing 5 and 6 year contracts at players a couple of years ago, it was a bold move, most of which have turned out to be good moves in terms of slowing down the residual value on the players. The players will have to move sooner rather than later though, with the policy of young players they have at the club. I'd imagine their team will only have around 5 over 30 year old's in their squad at any one time. It will be the case though that Ashley won't let Cheick Tiote's, for example value plummet below the 8-10m mark, he'll likely sell before then and the fans will have to come to terms with those sort of deals being the norm. In my opinion.

Just a very good move. Its about having confidence in the project. We clearly do and rightly so because it has been functioning very well over the last 2 years. We've gone from being a bit of a shambles to people wanting to copy our model (including Sunderlands owner). He's proved good value has Pardew and has been rewarded accordingly. As the lowest paid manager in the league, he'll have got himself a decent bump wages. Ashley seems keen to ensure continual progress. He has him tied in on a wage for 8 years. This means if Pardew is going to ask for more at any time in the next 8 years, he is going to have to ensure we keep on improving to prove he is worth more.

You need to explain that one a bit more as I cant see how we have copied anything here, which Ashley has implemented at newcastle, in the past 2 years?

ALL teams are watching the purse strings so there is nothing uniquely newcastle about that but in signing Cuellar and Saha, we are not soley looking a young players to sell on and in Johnson and Fletcher we have paid top dollar for established British EPL players?

We haven't given ANYONE on the playing staff 5 year contracts and NO-ONE on the coaching or management staff 8 year ones.

We haven't sold the stadium name or caused a rift between fans and club and we dont have a despised boardroom.

On top of that we are not planning to sell red & white ****ing jump suits either. Lol

    Please explain yourself fully?
