What do you guys think of Caulker? We (Liverpool) have been linked with him recently and can't say I've watched a lot of him.

Seems big and strong and good in the air from what I have seen, something we could do with but is he good enough to play at a higher level?
 
Hes a good player.

Dont think hes the sort of player who will help you win the title.

Saying that hed improve your current defence. Better than Agger.

I would have thought you could get better. However i think its virtually a done deal hes heading your way.

Id say hes a player whod improve most mid table PL teams. Top 4? No hes not that standard in my opinion.

Question's been asked before by one of you guys pal, and the answer you'll get is generally the same from most Cardiff posters.

In summary, many think we overpaid Spurs for him at £8M, but that wasn't his fault. His defensive qualities are what matters and he played well in a generally sub standard Premier League team last season. He was drawn out of position a number of times through going wide to assist our full back and that did cost us. He's also not faultless himself, and lost his man a few times that many would find unacceptable at your level.

However, he is still only 22 and will improve further. He's definitely Premier League standard right now and could grow into a quality CB at your level. He seems comfortable with the ball at his feet and will always look to play the ball out of defence rather than lump it (unlike our LCB Turner).

As for his goal scoring prowess, well that should really be just a bonus for a CB in any side. Having said that, he does get on the end of set piece deliveries very well and can score against any defence. I doubt he'd turn down any Premier club approach at the moment with us dropping a division, and I'll be very surprised if he's here at the start of next season.

If he gets lucky, he may well be picked up by a top 6 club like you, and it could be just a question of Cardiff taking the best offer subject to the release clause figure being triggered (if indeed there really is one), otherwise a solid mid table club would be a good move for him right now. A few other clubs have been mentioned, but if it comes down to money, I'd have thought a club like yours would be in pole position.

How much did you pay for Carroll?..........<laugh><ok>

Caulker is a really good defender and he did very well this season with cardiff and he had an unusual amount of defending to do compared to other seasons as well as cardiff fans would agree. He could easily step up to the mark with the right big club and liverpool fits the bill and Brendan knows him well having got the best out of him when he was on loan with us..
 
Doesn't sound like he's be a huge improvement on either Skrtel or Agger however age will be on his side I suppose.

As a back up could be a good option but hope he's not brought in as a first choice then.
 
so who would i trust the judgement of, rodgers, or some ****stain who hasn't him play last season.

he was in a crap defence, but put him in a team with experience and full backs who can defend and you get the best out of him.
 
Macheda got 10 in 18 games for a poor side in Birmingham. Would we prefer him or Grabban from Bouremouth? Personally I would go for Grabban as he has a better all round game and has done the hard yards through the divisions.

And it will annoy my brother-in-law who is a big Cherries fan. Sorry Trev!!!

Definitely agree Bfb. Macheda is a big gamble. Would 100% prefer Grabban.
 
Fraizer Campbell, Kenwyne Jones, Javi Guerra, Lewis Grabban, Federico Macheda, Joe Mason, Rhys Healy, Jo Inge Berget - that's 8 strikers mooted at this point in time.

How many do we need up front, and who will actually be here in August?
 
campbell is going now, mason is not an out and out striker, berget will probably be moved on, which leaves 5 strikers.

macheda has never done it, but he may be worth a punt on a free transfer, working with a manager who made his career out of scoring goals&#8230;..
