TV programmes have shown that people can't tell when something is served in a restaurant from a tin/packet the chef opened behind the scenes. A lot is in the mind.
¬_¬ Obviously wasn't being serious there. Some customers are problematic though, especially the ones who make a song and dance. I'd never be rude to a customer's face or otherwise; they fund our livelihood and on the most part it was an absolute pleasure serving people because they were courteous, they tipped and they were friendly. On the odd occasion you'd get a WUM who thought that because they were the customer they were right (boy was that proven wrong often) and they were just downright rude to staff who, to be frank, were just trying to do their jobs. You're talking about 16/17 year old girls being screamed at by 30 odd year olds because their burger wasn't quite to their liking or (true story), the ice cream was too cold and it "set his filling off" and frankly they're the kind of people I don't want in my establishment. There's no excuse for that kind of behaviour, not to anybody, let alone a girl who's been in the job 3 weeks and is trying to pay for her car or what have you. If I was a customer in a restaurant and I witnessed that I'd give the guy a ****ing slap. If they have a genuine reason to complain and it's a fault on our end then fair enough, you do your utmost to fix it and if it can't be fixed, you make damn well sure they leave with a smile on their face. If they still aren't happy, then at least you've done everything you can. If they get pissy about it and start being rude, they can **** off to Maccy D's with Johnny Tracksuit and all the other mongs who want fast food standard meals in 2 minutes. Customer service works both ways, the server makes the customer feel welcome and the customer treats the server with respect. It works no differently in any other industry, hospitality is no exception.
I know of at least one eatery just outside Hull that had a reputation as high class, that had plenty of budget microwave meal wrappers in its bins.
Same experience here. But someone wrote something negative about the Magpie on Twitter, so it's ibviously seen its standards fall
I knew as soon as typed it someone would pull me up! I said 'up' not 'off' there by the way before you start.
True, most aren't, but having worked in the industry for a long time, I didn't hire ones that I thought were unsuitable for the job.
The waitresses (and waiters) at Papas were fine. Attentive and sociable. It was just the whole system of getting seated that seemed convoluted. I had some fish, scampi and squid served in a pan. The fish and chips there is very good but the scampi and the squid tasted like they'd just come out of a packet. I have no qualms with the takeaway. It does decent fish and chips at a good price. It was just the restaurant that seemed a bit chaotic. Having said all that, my family still unanimously prefers the fish served up from the local mobile fish van for a similar price.
I can tell you honestly (or as honest as you can be from somebody you don't know) none of the seafood is packaged or processed, it's all fresh. I can't really comment on the seating arrangements, but from speaking to my mates that work there, they've introduced those vibrating pods that go off when your table is ready so I guess you can grab a drink in the bar while you wait.
The vibrating pods are a good idea. It wasn't even that busy when we were there. There were loads of empty seats. Like I said (sound like Swanny ffs), the couple in front of us were so unimpressed with the delay (once they'd been greeted) that they left. Maybe it was a bad batch of squid/scampi but it really let down the fish which was very good.
Probably 10 minutes (having been greeted). It was the owner's son who said he had to go off and check lists or something or other. It was really quite strange and rubbed my brother up the wrong way as well. The problem is that you only get one chance to make a good first impression.
Yeah. I never got the owners sons working there, one is a GP and the guy that meets and greets is a chartered accountant. Weird. If it wasn't busy then it might have been because there were a lot of bookings. I'd always book somewhere anyway if I'm taking somebody out to dinner, if you risk it on a weekend night then you're asking for disappointment. If it was a midweek then I can't think of a reason why there'd be a 10 minute wait to be seated.
