I can't remember your posts but I'd very much doubt that's the case ....... everyone knew the position with the squad. As far as the coach 'sunning himself during his holidays' is concerned, so what? The bloke was entitled to a break after the shift he put in last season wasn't he? Not only that but we have a highly paid DOF to negotiate with players. Just because Borini may wish to stay at his club, with a European campaign ahead, doesn't automatically mean the DOF's useless. We have to face facts, Sunderland aren't an attractive club and bringing in good players isn't easy.
Congerton has had 23 days in his role, in which he can bring in players and people are hounding him out of a job
The Borini affair should not have been allowed to drag on, it has made us look like idiots, 14m is far too much in the first place and he looks disinterested in returning to us. We need to look elsewhere. The same goes for Alonso in some respects, offer what the club are asking for and set a time limit to completion or pull out. There are still many options out there and more will surface in the next week or so. Nil Desperandum.
£14m is a fair price when all add-ons are taken into account (remember the press said we'd paid £12m for Wickham when it was only £8.1 up front and the rest in add ons). Chances are this will be the same. Press are saying "£14m" when it's not £14m - and remember that Liverpool still owe us from Henderson and Mignolet on clauses in their contracts. As for him being disinterested - he is employed by Liverpool and is playing in pre-season - if he said "I don't want to play as I want to discuss a transfer" that, to me, makes him unprofessional.
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...k-douglas-recruitment-efforts-falter-7486103? There's FORTY days of the window left which is longer than the DOF has already had to sign players!
In truth, that doubt still remains, though Poyet has provided an update from the Sunderland end of things and insists he sees no reason why the move can't happen. Speaking after the 1-0 friendly success over Carlisle, Poyet told reporters: "I can assure you that there is no disappointment on my part that it has not happened yet. It is normal. And with all respect to the media, they do not know everything that is going on. It is not for me to explain but it is not just a question of Fabio wanting to come or not. There are many, many things to look at and unfortunately I cannot comment on those. We are involved in negotiations and you never know how long that can take. There's nothing new to report as things stand but we are still hoping to close the deal completely. It's up to Fabio. We have been clear, everything is fine, there's no doubt about his connection with our club and me and him get along fine, so there is no reason for it not to happen."
Its always the same in a competition year (World Cup or Euro's), signings seem to take forever and teams dont want to sell until they have all the players together again. No need to panic over a couple of comments on Twitter FFS, 5 words in a twitter post isnt going to give us the full story.
http://www.sunderland.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=364320 Joel Campbell, another possibility if Altidore, Graham leave ....... hopefully not Wickham.
Aye he's on the list of nearly 100 links so far this window yet we are all getting hung up on borini & alonso, me included, **** knows what is going on, gus seems calm in what he is saying, that'll do for me
Congerton OUT Kinnear IN !!! Seriously though there's two separate points for me. Will you get the payers in? Yes I'm sure you will and they are likely to be as good as the ones who needed replacing, plus they will be Poyets men. When will you get them in? This is the only downside for me. Ideally the players are in place by about now so they can have a full pre-season with the squad and the boss. It depends on the player and position but certainly if a player comes from another league in a months time he can't be expected to be playing in the same manner immediately as if he was there now. Wouldn't panic until September 1st though and even then your season simply cannot start worse than last year and you ended up safe at least.
Kinnear had a year and failed, Congerton's already brought in 3 times as many players in a month We couldn't guarantee targets PL football until the very end of the season, we were rock bottom with 4 games to play. It's a miracle we're even in the division never mind signing players. We have longer left, in the window, than Congerton has already had.
Kinnear had 18+ months and his only permanent signing was... Olivier Kemen That has to be some sort of record for crapness? In comparison Congerton is godlike in his dealings.
The appointment of Kinnear was one of the oddest and most inexplicable things ever to happen to football. Who do you have now, if anyone, they seem to be doing well for you?
To be fair I think Ashley tried to look after Joe kinnear after he had to let him go after his heart attack. Joe just couldn't keep his gob shut.
At the end of the day ES, GP, LC & all us fans know we need players. If we are still no further forward by August 30th then I will be very, very worried.
A lot can done in 5 weeks mate. I don't think GP would have stayed if he didn't get any money to spend. Its all a waiting game we should be used to it now none of our transfers seem to be as quick as other teams.
