We are away to Palace, yes? Far too early to be worrying. Let the man do his job without the axe over his head
Yes, hope for a win, settle for a draw, as long as we beat them at home! I dont want him sacked, far too early to be considering that! I just think the players are not good enough for mid table security, never have been. Doesnt seem to matter whose in charge or what tactics are used! Its always been the same. Even under our two 10th finishes under Bruce, we were always on the fringes of a relegation place! We have had a long time to get things right, but nothing seems to change, so yes, Gus has to stay cos changing managers regularly doesnt seem to help, except for their bank balance! But what will your opinion be if we dont win a single game in the next 5-10 games??? If we went down would you still keep him? At what point in a season do you sack a manager of a team whose financial security will be in jeopardy if relegated? Its a tough decision for owners to make!
Yes. Just reading Keanes book, it's been the case certainly since his days in charge. We can't attract top players here. Scouting has to be better and we might need to pay better wages
And when you think of the money spent????? It's infuriating! For players to come up here we have had to pay over the odds for total mediocrity! I cant see how its ever going to change!
Calm stated it was a a 6 pointer and we must take three points, We're a bottom half side. I'll be realistic and happy with any point we can pick up away, like any side of our level. I won't heap unnecessary presure on the lads, I'll take a 0-0 and If we don't manage a point, oh well, it's an away game after all. It's Palace fans who should be seeing this as a must win not us. A home match against a relegation rival.
Touch OTT. Palace is a "it would be great to win but if we get a draw that that would be dandy and, everything considered, a loss will not define our season" game. You lot have only been in the relegation zone for a few hours and have 7 months to get out!! Generally I'd say you look at the 13-15 games at home against the bottom 13-15 teams from last year and want to try and win 7-8 or more of them. Chuck in a few random results away from home or against big teams. Finally sprinkle a liberal seasoning of draws and you have a pretty solid recipe for safety. It never works out quite as simply as that but there are no "must win" games at this stage. We played Palace a few weeks back and they looked a solid outfit with good attacking outlets. You guys will be safe this season, there's a few teams you are better than. My concern would be that I think your team is getting slightly weaker year on year but I am a dirty mag who should be ignored and mocked at all stages. Good luck, I honestly think you'll be midtable for most of this season and comfortable come May.
Vergini and Coates (fit) are fine, with JOS and Brown as cover. BJ is canny but a crock. We miss Gardener and Colback as cover at full back. Plus Gus is convinced his ****ty Championship tactics work at Premier League level ,and its clear to anyone who isn't an idiot they don't, we will go down. Get rid of him asap.
Agreed. What's with all the end of October hand-bags ffs? To suggest this game defines our season is ridiculous, unless of course something catastrophic happens and several of our players break their legs and are out for at least 6 months.
We need a couple of wins and to score some goals. Were not actually a bad side but confidence is currently low and we have a couple of our best players injured. You saw what a positive result can do at the end of last season. We have plenty of time but the sooner the rot stops the better. No doubt we need 2 x defenders and a striker in jan.
SUNDERLAND are assessing the foot injury suffered by Steven Fletcher against Arsenal, with the Black Cats concerned about adding to their casualty list. Fletcher limped off five minutes into the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat after receiving a stamp on the top of his foot. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/fletcher-injury-a-worry-for-sunderland-1-6917902
It is more a six pointer for Palace, their supporters will know this and they will be right behind their team from the off, the first objective for us will be to slow the game down and keep it tight, not pretty but effective, I would play a midfield of Catts, Rodwell and Bridcut for this one game, if it works it could be a blueprint for tough away games, and make no mistake it will be tough. Up front we need players who can to attack on the break, its MON football really but it can work, an open game will result in defeat, and for me I would be delighted with a point which would take the pressure off us and put it on an opponent, who like us look bottom six.
