Just a week too late for the price old bean (I need to celebrate as I seldom get a winner!)

Thanks to ROTO for yesterdays horse, and if Stick is reading, your favourite ran a brilliant race before seemingly blowing up. He looks one to be with when fully primed.

What a day. England **** at rugby, newcastle lose at home and all my league runners fail. well done all on those on al ferof but to say he was ready to 'serve it up' to Cue Card in the arkle is hilariously unfair. Just flicking the racing on now, really keen to see what the hell happened to Grand Crus.

Just watched the racing after playing footy this afternoon, I had Al Ferof and nadiya, race was run pretty much as I expected, but this was only after looking at the thing 8 or 9 times!!!

    Well done all other winners!

Yep. he was there 4 out, exactly where you'd want him to be and then bang he was PU. Bit perplexed but I won't write him off just yet. Maybe the soft ground, maybe he needed the run, maybe he doesn't enjoy chasing at Cheltenham. Maybe he's just not that good though....

I have to admit when I watched the pre race parade he looked like a bag of bones, but you might be right with the last option, maybe he's just not that good

Just watching the 3.40. Canadian Diamond was travelling the best when falling 2 out. One to track.

well a day of mixed fortunes. mikael d'haguenet though <yikes> i really wanted him to win, just hope he's alright.

what happened in the cross country at punchestown??! the leader was the one who took the wrong course and half of them followed.

i saw the warnings on here about grands crus beforehand. and only 6 finished. did the ground catch most of them out? or maybe hilly cheltenham plus the ground. i thought hunt ball would normally have done better.

not my only winner, but the only winner i posted on here was lean burn at uttoxeter. glad that came good, hope the forum chap who went there made money on it <ok>

enjoyable day's racing, if a bit unpredictable. more tomorrow

Anybody still backing Mikael D'Haguenet needs to step away from the fairytale factory.

I mean don't get me wrong- we all have favourites, good selections, and a whole heap of wrong selections, but what has Mikael D'Haguenet done in the last 18 months to suggest he is ever worth backing?

GGW- as for Al Ferof ready to serve it up to Cue Card- do you really think Cue Card would have been an easy second best to Sprinter? If you rewatch that race, Al Ferof had overtaken Cue Card and had he not landed his hind legs on the final ditch, he would have been bowling down the hill again much like the Supreme Novice and todays Paddy Power run. But hey maybe we see the race differently- its all about opinions and that is what makes it so great. <cheers>

I think Cue Card would have been bang in the frame today if he ran in the PP Gold Cup- possibly just struggling to hold off the challengers late on in the soft ground.

Seriously though- the Supreme Novice 2011 form is well, well worth following and it stands up to many formlines. Sprinter Sacre/Al Ferof/Cue Card and Spirit Son were 4 fabulous horses locking horns that day in March and stamped themselves as well above the rest. Funny how the 3 chasers have turned out- Sprinter looks a Champion Chaser, Al Ferof a 3 miler in the making and Cue Card not one or t'other! Spirit Son looked every inch a Champion Hurdle contender before illness struck.

By the way, Nass has told us all Al Ferof was his selction ALL WEEK- well done Nass <cracker>

Topclass I backed him because it was a **** race and he still retains ability. Not as good as he was. I think it is a bit harsh coming on here writing that when he was still on the bridle and clear before hitting the last. He jumped perfectly until 2 out and then I knew he would hit the last.

I know what you mean RV. Iv probably not gotten my point across in the right way.

But really its Mullins and his hype that does me. Last year he was turned over by Mourad at 1/3 and for me he just looked a bit of a bridle horse. Its a long time since his Cheltenham win and im not sure its form stands up as well as the following years with really good animals like Rock On Ruby and First Lieutenant. Coming out of it.

He was talked up as the next big thing but 3 years of not really delivering it suggests he just didnt live up to the promise.

Tell you what I am looking forward to though- Boston Bobs chase debut. He is in the same boat though- has to prove the promise.

Fair point mate <ok> you wouldn't catch me backing him in any sort of good race.

Back In Focus running today is a lovely horse <ok>

Irrespective of his Cheltenham hurdle form his chasing form was more than enough to beat that field doing handstands. Had he jumped the last two (and the rest of his jumps were good) he would have won by over 10 lengths so I don't really understand what you're saying. At 2/1 (which I think we all took) he was a rare combination of a horse who was not only the most likely winner but also the best value in the race.

I think having watched a couple more times he suffered from drawing clear. Had something kept him up to his work and concentrating I imagine we'd be talking about a good round of jumping and an impressive winner because he wasn't tired. A tired horse wouldn't have got as close to the winner after that balls up at the last.
