If Harris at wingback has to constantly be told what to do by Gunnar and Peltier then perhaps he shouldn't be played there. Up front is all about pace and instinct which is far removed from any defensive positioning issues that might question his inclusion. We have a problem up front that Lambert may or may not resolve and it's worth considering all options. This is a conundrum that needs a lot of thought as well as new players.
What I mean by that Sparks is that he is still learning what is a very new role for him and at the moment he needs the regular support and encouragement of senior players. I would hope that the longer he is used as a wing back the less he will need that help. If not then that is another matter. Totally agree with your last 3 sentences.
Bluey, primarily we need to get players into the box. This faffing about in the middle 3rd of the pitch biding their time is all very well if you've got lethal strikers who can turn a game in an instant - we haven't. The short answer is to get the ball in there more often on the basis that by the law of averages something will stick. To do that we need a far quicker train of thought and action by the midfield supply chain. With Lambert having spent half his playing life inside the box, the temptation maybe to go for Route 1 tactics and that could be very fruitful. If Lambert causes enough hassle and doesn't score himself, as long as you've got someone quick and able to finish in there with him it could work. Despite his other shortcomings, Harris has both those qualities.
Able to finish? Not seen much evidence of that before he started to play wingback. If we go route one then it has to be back to 4 4 2 to give Lambert immediate support and the midfield have to be able to get forward quickly too. Gunnar, Whitts and Ralls? O'Keefe, Noone and Pilks yes and Immers could be there with this anticipation but they can't all play at the same time.
I know it's a different level, but he scored plenty for the Dev squad. From memory only, if Healey didn't score, Harris usually obliged.
I despair on the rare occasion City get into a position in the opposition half and there are hardly blue shirts in or around the penalty area. There has been no real attacking intent since Jones was manager.
