Some interesting comments from Mourinho on Ozil after Gerany's 4-0 win: “I think it’s hard to criticize him, because Ãzil is Ãzil. If you were expecting Ãzil to be super aggressive and to be running miles and miles from side to side and to show great enthusiasm and aggressiveness, this is not Mesut. If you are waiting for somebody where every time he touches the ball, the ball smiles. “Every time he makes a pass, the ball goes with the right direction, the right speed, the right intensity, this is Ãzil. At the same time, I learned with him because we were together for quite a long time, that he’s a very sensitive boy. He needs confidence. He needs trust. He needs to feel that people is with him. When he’s on the pitch, every time he touches the ball, the ball goes beautiful. And he’ll always finds the right man on the right place. So, sometimes, you don’t see him, sometimes he doesn’t go to screen many, many times. But when he goes he is a special player.” http://soccerlens.com/mesut-ozil-is-a-special-player-mourinho/141923/ I think the boo boys need to leave Ozil alone. It seems to have become fashionable for a section of our fans to say our players are crap and to generally disrespect them. In this case it might be very counter-productive.
He's a great player, but just as Mourinho says, he's a confidence player. When you are winning 1-0, he will help you win 4-0. When you are losing 1-0, he will not graft it and grind the result out. He's an awesome player, but he allegedly has a fragile mentality.
That is a very broad brush stroke. I'm not sure I agree even with the concept. I think you have misread the evidence. I think he is the sort of player that will not help you win the midfield possession battle, but if you do win that battle, he will help you turn that dominance into goals.
I firmly believe most of the negativity is the media telling Arsenal fans they don't like Mesut, rather than Arsenal fans actually disliking him. The vast majority realise what a gem we have, the rest.. well they can go f*ck themselves as far as I'm concerned.
He's a top player. Even in his so called 'quiet' games he usually got an assist or a goal last season.
do we want a class player like Ozil making passes that lead to goals or do we want a **** player who can run all game and tackles loads !
Ozil is world class , but he dont show it every game . Some teams he struggles to make a BIG impact , but he carries a threat in every game . He will do for me .
He does , really well , and the he ......err ........... Continues to hold it up really well . 22 goals in 57 games you know . You dont get them sort of stats without holding the ball up well. when even Kos says we need a striker , you KNOW we need a striker .
Even Giroud said we need another striker. It's no secret, we tried to buy one last summer too. Giroud can't carry us all season and we need a striker who is clinical in the big games. This is not news.
i think we have to have some perspective here. lets review what has happened in our search for a new class stimer. AW had a £25million bid for Higuain accepted by Real Madrid then was gazumped by Napoli who paid £35million. AW didn't rate him worth that much so didn't match it. AW bid £25million for Rooney, Chelsea then bid £30million, United offered Rooney £300k a week and he stayed. [seems a good miss based on this world cup]. AW bid £30million for Suarez, then raised it to £40million+ to match release clause, Liverpool acted like ****s and didn't honour contract, so AW walked away. IMO i honestly believe AW only makes bids for players that he thinks he can actually get, and he has tried to get in a world class striker rather than a make do unheard of French import like he normally does. AW biding £40million for a striker from a rival was not his normal behaviour. AW paying £42million to buy Ozil from Real Madrid is not his normal behaviour. perhaps AW has changed his transfer policy !
IMO he should rethink that, as he clearly isn't very good at deciding if he can actually get a player
