Although that doesn't fill us with confidence seeing that, the one thing about it is that we can make the difference if we take control of the mistakes we make. It's not like we're being undone by the skill of other teams, which we can't do anything about.
Recently we haven't really made mistakes defensively so hopefully that phase is done. I think a major reason for that is that we rotated our back line far too much to allow for partnerships and geling to form. Not to mention that Kos+Verm couldn't work in the long run as it lacked Mert's calming presence, they are too similar and Vern was shockingly out of forn
Should our first choice defenders stay fit, then that number will decrease drastically, Sagna's picked up his form again, Koscielny and Mertesacker are incredible, and Gibbs has improved immensely, the jury's still out on whether it'll be him or Monreal but either one of them has the ability that is required.
I think Vermaelen is going to have a tough time trying to get back into this team. I often thought he might make a good DM instead of a CB, but now we have Flamini, he is going to have to wait for either an injury or suspension to Kos/Mert or try and force his way into the team via the League or FA cup.
Depth is good and the competition should bring out the best in him. As for DM he could be backup backup until Arteta is back. Funny to think that our captain and our vice-captain might be benched or not even make it on the bench
Is that a map of Antarctica? Ozil is a super buy. Your defence is suspect, but getting Ozil for that money is superb. You should be happy - stop worrying what other fans think.
To me Ozil is only the second world class player that we've ever bought. The first being Denis Bergkamp
42m is an eye-wateringly ridiculous amount to pay for a football player, and it upsets me on many levels. In the context of the modern football transfer market, however, he is one of the "super elite" where Ronaldo commands 80m, Bale more, Torres 50, Ibra 50ish etc. so to get him for nearer 40 is great business.
I wouldn't say DB10 was world class when we bought him, he'd had it rough at Inter, and his stock had fallen.
This is a completely new experience for me as I was only 2 when we signed Bergkamp. Still hasn't sunk in properly for me, as weird as it sounds.
