What I'm saying is he could have just brushed it off when he was asked about it, rather than basically criticise Ozil in public. If he wanted to discuss the comments with Ozil in private, that's fine. But he should have left it at just that, rather than saying his comments were unwelcome and negative.
I never said he couldn't. I just think the manager could have dealt with the situation better. Especially when it wasn't even a big issue in the first place.
TBH I don't mind Wenger speaking out, I think both men are right. Ozil is right to call a spade a spade, that we have ****ed up....And Wenger is also right to speak out against it, if only Wenger would do that more, instead of always defending-protecting the players, the fact that Ozil said this publicly says it all, Wenger has such a protectionist-soft approach with his players, that they don't have a problem coming out and saying something like this. Would Ozil make a public statement like this if Wenger was more hard on his players? I think not. But he always defends them, even when they're mediocre, some of the things he came out with in the last 3 months during our relegation form material was crazy. Game after game with no win, terrible performances, and he was all about how much great spirit we showed, and how these players are fighters bla bla bla.
I can't speak for anyone else, but he approaches things like a politician at times and this really grates. I'm surprised some more enlightened fellows on the Arsenal forum haven't criticised him once for it. If an MP said the same thing they would be the first to pull them up for it.
I tell you what a world class player like Ozil deserves: (1) a front line that can convert the hundreds of chances he creates (2) a team and a squad that has the ability to beat top sides and courage to win under pressure (3) a manager that has the nouse and the balls to actually deliver the top honours. Honestly believe his world class talent is wasted with us. It's a criminal waste.
