    What a sad way to finish the match (for us).

    Thought we played the better football overall in the two games. Oxford had 5 men booked tonight, Pompey only had 2 bookings. Sums up the game to me :emoticon-0127-lipss

    Perhaps the gods have been kind as I feel with the current squad we would have struggled in the Championship. The question now is what kind of rebuild will be done between now and the new season. Is Brown out of contract? I would try and keep him. As for the loanees, are any likely to be bought? If not that is 4 members of the first team squad out the door. I also suspect Curtis will be going for half a million to help pay for the loss during this period. (he is worth a lot more but clubs now have to cover their losses.

    I feel that Marquis is a good footballer but maybe just a bit edgy trying to deliver the goods. Same with Harrison. So we need a LB, RB; unless Close is adaptable to play there, a CB, a creative midfielder a la Dillon, the last time we were in this division.

    You could say the same thing about any team that gets promoted this season, none of them are strong enough.

    All of last season's promoted teams have struggled this season in the Championship. Two of the three teams look like they are coming straight back down again !

    When Pompey last got out of this division in 1983, you knew there was a squad there that would soon challenge for promotion, and they did after a dodgy first season. The basis was there with Dillon, Webb, Rafferty, Doyle, Morgan and Knight. I cannot see anyone in the current squad in that calibre, but I could be wrong. The time for promotion is when PFC have got a strong enough squad to challenge in the Championship for promotion after gaining promotion from League 1 the previous season, a la Southampton.
