Pompey play a long ball forward that goes no where. Bennett gets the ball and plays the ball to Rose who is offside.
Evan and Baker link up and get it to Chaplin on the edge of the box, he gets it to Bennett who takes a shot that almost hits the corner flag.
Game over. Pompey come away from the Kassam defeated. Two games into the season they now sit 12th in the table. The old cliche is that Football is a game of two halfs and this is true for this game. Pompey were the better team in the first half and if that goal had not been disallowed might now be walking away with all three points but giving away an early goal in the second half allowed Oxford to relax and take control and Pompey ended up falling apart. They weren't good enough in the final third and the strikers had nothing to work with, and taking Talbot off then moving Evans back destabilized and weakened the defence. There are some positives because the teams were evenly matches for most of the game but work needs to be done because this Pompey side is going to struggle unless they can get better in delivering the final ball and finding a cutting edge, and need to learn not to fall apart after conceeding. It also highlights the lack of strenght in depth we have with Jamal Lowe suspended.
We never get a result or the rub of the green away, against these carrot crunchers. If I bet against pompey in one match this would be it.
With Lowe suspended, and four players (including 3 defenders) injured, it's not surprising! Very early days, and with Gary Roberts now off the payroll and Michael Smith to hopefully follow, that gives Kenny Jackett leeway to make a few new signings to strengthen the squad.
I'm sick of Oxford, they always beat us... or occasionally we draw... but they're definitely a bogey team... So I'm not gonna worry yet.... Plus tempered expectations might be a good thing. Btw, I like your avatar meowth At least we have the excitement of Walsall at home next. Of course there's a training fixture on Wednesday, but the only entertainment from that is reading comments on Twitter and seeing how low attendances are.
Good work Majr. I had a feeling that this would be tough. They are a decent team and as Lapras says a bit of a bogey side for us. Is it my imagination or have 3 ex players scored against us this week. Hopefully that spectre is over for the season.
