Taff - nobody has copied his post onto a reply, so the way is still open for him to remove it himself and it will disappear without trace. Would be nice to see that, and I'm sure the "yellow" could be immediately lifted in that case.
Sorry Spark that's not on. Does that mean all those on yellow can abuse in a comment and then delete at a later time to overturn punishment?
As first offence, maybe it would have been enough, but not for serial offenders. Anyway, you've ****ed it up now..............unless Taff decides to delete your comment as well. You've probably copied it onto wordpad by now in case he does.........
He had long enough to delete his own comment Spark. It was a deliberate attempt to inflame the situation. I am genuinely sorry for going off topic over this but I want a fair system on here for all posters.
Fair enough Bobby - Anyway, back to the thread if we can ignore this side issue (as important as it is), and let's have a look at the advantages and disadvantages of ground ownership as opposed to leasing a facilty. The only disadvantages I can envisaged are the obvious need to service the huge mortgage initially required to purchase, and the cost of maintenance falling in full upon the club as owners and sole users. The advantages however are prodigious. We've already touched on some of them. 1) The enhanced balance sheet asset value making the club attractive for external investment. 2) Control of your own destiny in decision taking as any future expansion deemed necessary. The CCS has already got planning approval for up to a 60,000 seater stadium on the site, so red tape/bureaucracy doesn't become a major factor. 3) Control of all future events - sports related and otherwise - and the income streams they generate at the stadium. 4) Income derivation from hospitality, both corporate and private that comes directly to the club. . 5) Catering rights and the resulting profitability from all events, not just football related (subject to contracts put in place with external caterers used). 6) is there a 6th, or a 7th, or even more?
6) Income from renaming/branding rights for the stadium - might be covered under 4) or 5) above but worth detailing. 7) Ability to make decisions about virtually all aspects (planning excluded) without reference to third parties.
Sparkey, I didn't think it was possible to expand the stadium to 60,000 now. I know that was in the original design, and future planning permission to expand the stadium was granted, but didn't the Riddler scupper that by reducing costs, and making the foundations smaller?
Exile - correct about the reduced capacity finally decided upon. The "deadwork" below gound was scaled back to reduce the overall costs - I think it saved about £5 mill in up front costs. The new maximum capacity the revised deadwork could support was never disclosed to my knowledge, but it was suggested that the 60,000 could not be achieved without some major cost implications on the same footprint. The planning consent for a 60,000 seater still exists though, and though it would cost a darn site more to get to that figure now, nothing is impossible.
That's it the camels back is gone. I'm requesting my mod rights be removed. I cannot see warnings issued for what was so clearly a silly joke! One I found funny. John has been yellowed for no reason. I kept quite for the sake of a united front but no more. You lot are to sensitive and I can't be arsed with this anymore. I tried my best to keep the rules as lax as possible while people were screaming for bans because ITS A PUBLIC FORUM Anyone else want a go? - ill recommend you as I resign. Then I'll have you committed! Ill give it half hour for people to step forward.
60,000 is way way exaggeration, cardiff would never fill that in a million years. Its pie in the sky and a figure picked out of the air...how are you going to ever fill the ground and what do you think it would cost to maintain such a stadium for a small club like cardiff?....Its like swansea saying we will expand to 35,000 seater. Its plucking a figure that is not achievable that would be a huge burden on the club forever and eventually when we finally get relegated whenever that is then the club could end up in ruins, You will be surprised how much it costs to run the stadium on a daily basis, its not just when its used that you have to pay its every minute of every day, how the hell are cardiff going to do that?? The millenium stadium is struggling to make ends meet and that is supported by the whole of wales....no 60,000 is a nice thought but pie in the sky just like 35,000 is for both clubs in this day and age..
It was nothing more than a harmless joke you would say in a pub with your mates, hence why I clearly stated if anyone found it offensive, the mods would remove it Don't step down Pont, you to have clearly seen it was a humorous joke, one that I thought a number of people would have had a laugh at. Anyway, post has now been deleted. Apologies if John found it offensive, wasn't meant to be
It wasn't a deliberate attempt. Like I have said, I had instructed the mods to delete the comment if it was found offensive. If I thought so many would have found it offensive, I wouldn't have posted it in the first place. Hell fire, you hear jokes like that all the time between groups of friends. Also I do not spend all day sat in front of a laptop, so this has been the first opportunity I have had to delete the comment
Oldsparky Stadco are 1 representative from the council on behalf of the people of Swansea, 1 from the Swans and 1 representative from the Ospreys, each have a third share of Stadco .
Not disputing that Mabbs, but Stadco do not own the Liberty Stadium as you alluded - they are merely the stadium's operating management company for the Council. The stadium always was and still is the property of Swansea City Council. No sweat.
The only thing I can find in this regard is : “The stadium was leased to SSMC under a 50-year lease dated April 22 2005. The basis of the lease is that rent will be payable at 30% of any distribution of profits from SSMC, plus a peppercorn. So while the Swans may own a third of Stadco, Stadco in fact lease the Liberty from the Council. As such, the Swans own 0% of the stadium. Also, there appear to be 6 directors of Stadco, 2 from each. EDIT - DOH, payback for me sneaking in the post about Mutch being out on Saturday Sparkey.
Yes you are correct there Oldsparky the gound is actually owned by the council on behalf of the people of swansea.
remote the only thing that i have been told is that the council do indeed own the stadium outright and the Swans only pay rent for using the stadium if they have a crowd of 16000+, if it is below that figure it is rent free, as for the ospreys i do not know their figures, i have no doubt somebody on here will confirm this or correct it where appropriate.
It does seem quite a convoluted arrangement Mabon. Not sure the ins and outs are known outside STADCO and neither do we need to know, certainly not us in Cardiff. An interesting model that seems to work for you guys. There are others a lot less fortunate.
