yes newport will get things right. we got our pitch wrong when we started as you could not play football and rugby on it to the standard we wanted. we went to america and found a place who produced grass that was ten times better than we could produce over this country. It worked a treat where you could play rugby on a friday and it would be perfect for football on the saturday, It don't come cheap but works out cheaper in the long run replacing parts or all of the pitch every time a game has been played on it...fair play to our ground staff who won this seasons award for the best kept pitch of the season.....newport will follow our example once they get organized...
I remember the groundsman getting his award last season for it too. Echoing what Sparkey said earlier, it's good to be able to have a decent chat without the need for the UN peacekeepers to be out
On the contrary John, BluefromBridgend was stating that the Newport's pitch is poor with having three different teams using the same pitch. With investment on the playing surface then a pitch can be used for multiple sports. It took us a couple of years to get the surface right, as Dai has mentioned at a great cost. Not trying to point score, just stating a fact.
Exactly - just broadening the thread on the problems of a club not owning it's own ground and sharing with other sports and how the Swans have successfully handled it.
Many council owned stadiums would do well going to America and seeing how they do their surfaces, NFL has massive experience of these artificial turfs for mixed uses. It would help those stadiums be used for many disciplines and help ensure profitability. PS. On the whole Coventry thing, I am sure I read that the stadium owners are trying to take Coventry to court for now using a different venue... Despite kicking them out!!!
Yes, they say that Cov have a contractual obligation to play at the Ricoh despite being evicted for non payment of rent. They argue they have offered a workable alternative of £100k a year while in Div 1 and £400k while in Championship. Pity they didn't offer this while Cov have struggled in the last 2 seasons. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23515733 What a nightmare for those who suffer the most - loyal Cov fans. Current estimates of attendance at next weekend's first "home" game at Northampton are 500 with only 200 season tickets sold. Against that over 1,500 went to their away game at Crawley on Saturday.
Well Valley, if we're playing by the new rules, that deserves a yellow as much as John. Personally, I think most of us would be more comfortable with "self moderation". If you're serious about reducing comments like that on the board, you could easily edit it out yourself like any other poster, and not wait for a mod to do it if for you.
Agreed Sparkey This is getting stupid. Some of us on here (Cardiff and Swans alike) are trying to have a sensible conversation around the original topic and then the usual suspects come in to disrupt it. If you really want to do that guys then please take in to the Banter/Wum thread where it belongs.
Well done lads. It's about time there was a level playing field. How he's a mod I will never know. Yet another case of goading John to get him banned. Will he receive a yellow mods?
Of course he wont ITIT , but thats ok i was just being made an example of and i can stand up to that ,even if my respose was proper to KJ and asked a mod to step in and i got a yellow for it ,lol
Coventry are in a no win situation as they are under contract to play all their home games at Ricoh stadium and because they have been stopped for non payment of rent cannot use another stadium at will. I know its harsh and its kicking them while they are down but the owners of the Ricoh stadium are in their rights to stop them playing at another ground unless its an away match.....Its a hell of a situation to be in and there will be more points deduction to follow ore even worse they could well go out of business all together. I hope they can find some sort of solution before it comes to that or they will have to start afresh with a new club and apply to join another league and try and make their way back....
I remember reading that and thought for a double use stadium to receive that was very surprising and equally impressive!
Yeah, fair shout sparkey. Probably feeling over sensitive given the way a number of threads have gone lately. Been deliberately holding off making any reference to the Swans situation personally. As is said though, it seems to work for them. I suppose it polarises clubs though, with the Swans doing will it appears a good model, with Coventry doing less well it causes problems. As I said earlier, a unique business model is football. The usual measures of ROCE, P/E, cash flow, current ratio, ROI, are either highly geared or just don't make sense compared to a more traditional business.
Valley I believe you are aware of the unwritten rule and even though I feel this is meant in humour there have been complaints raised. Therefore I will issue this warning. View attachment 25184
