It's amusing that visiting fans are all too ready to call all of our purchases failures and over-priced. Sure they may have taken longer than we believed to settle but they are far from failures. Let's take Spurs. Just how much is it going to cost them to replace Modric, Bale etc. and how successful will they be?
uir you're a scream..... in case you missed the news the league is not the be all and end all, a carling cup my son... remember when your manager was depserate to win more of those than us and was raging you lost to palace... oh yeah.... not so long ago..... as for spuds fans... who cares what they say. in the end all you can read into what wanrer said was comolli didn't go well cos he got scalded there and kenny got backed cos there's big matches coming... and btw for uir what kind of moron would say none of the players he really needs to get a performance out of in 2 days time are not his choice. of course he has to say they are his. thats not to ever say he didn't pick them just that he;s also not saying he'll happily flog carroll etc i nthe summer again...
It's an interesting statement. 2 days ago your Commercial Director Graham Bartlett left the club. Ian Ayre used to do that job but was promoted last year. The job he is supposed to now be doing is Managing Director, but here Werner says; "His charge is to raise revenue so that we can put the resources into strengthening our football club" which is what he used to do. It's obviously an in-house interview, so the question itself - "do you envisage..." is not asking "will there be changes...". Ayre is having a bit put on him here. He's now accountable if there is no spending money in the summer.
Talk about the promotion of conspiricy! As you have no idea about FSC/LFCs investment plans or funding then your last line is absolute ill-informed garbage.
What are you talking about, did you bother to read what I wrote. Read the statement ffs - I'm quoting directly - "His charge is to raise revenue so that we can put the resources into strengthening our football club". It's not the plans I'm talking about, its the fact it is his responsibility now and its been publicly put on his shoulders.
No it has not! Increasing the profitability of the club has always been his responsibility. Whilst some of that profitability will undoubtedly go towards spending on players there is absolutely no suggestion that future spending will only be limited to an increase in profits. If you don't understand corporate management and management responsibility then it is very silly to make ill-informed comment.
I would think the league is the be all and end all for a club like Liverpool. Everything else would be an after thought.
And which playerSSS did we pay 3 times over their value for? Even the most obvious Carrol was rumoured to be on Spurs radar for 18 mil so even there it's less than twice his real value and that's without the bidding war that may have ensued. That's not to say I think he was worth anywhere near 35mil but at 20mil I don't think anybody would have raised an eyebrow.
I think we have to give credit to Kenny for his honesty: in saying that all the buys were his choice. IMO however he has left himself vulnerable and exposed. Whilst there is no doubt about how overpriced the new players were, it is also debatable whether these same players were right for us in the first place. I am relieved that the owners have signalled that they won't stand for mediocrity. If our performance in theleaguedoes not improve, key changes will be made. And for those who say that challenging for the title or a tchampions league place for next season is not realistic, all I sayis that the owners will definitely want it. They hadit forTHIS season never mind the next. The Fly in the ointment of Kenny staying is the spending if the money. If the choices were all his, then all I can say is that we need someone else to help do the choosing. So the recruitment if Cruyff or Van Gaal may help Kenny there. One thing is for sure. Our owners are hard headed businessmen and they wouldn't let things like appearances at Wembley distract from their main objective: getting this club in the top 4. I for one am glad of that.
I think he isnot value at 20 mil either. But even if it was the club would have spent 15mil more,a huge chunk of the budget. However you look at it there was huge incompetence in the negotiations. If a club asks 35 mil for a player isn't there a case to walk away?
I'm glad for on utd failed to pay 40mil for sneijder.. long may that continue. Keep spending wahts left of the 80 mil on players like young and jones and let them keep the medical staff busy. At least valencia gave to value for money though.... I just wonder what will occur if utd draw to everton or villa before the city game... its all about the big win isn't it... maybe one of these days some more sides will realise putting 9 men behind the ball and surrendering the midfield to utd is not the best game plan and will go at you. but then you do have that wonder midfield you DIDNT over pay for in the form or carrick, anderson and the like eh?
i'm sure kleberson and djemba djemba are still available ps cmonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn just popping in - popping back out again - hi all
