Maybe the thread idea should be changed (no offence to CB, this is a very enlightening thread and a great idea) to overrated and underrated for the other 19 PL teams? Who we think doesn't get enough praise, and who we think gets too much praise.
At Arsenal ... under rated Walcott ... Over rated keeper Szechny (excuse spelling) good but very young so still prone to errors In premier league ... under rated Michael Carrick ... Over rated Darren Bent - I know he scores but he has a poor affect on a team... Ipswich ... scored loads but they were relegated, ditto Charlton, Spurs improved immeasurably without him after replacing him with Peter Crouch!!!! Sunderland struggled with him and villa are struggling (and were last season when he was a regular starter.
Arsenal: Overrated: Vermaelen, Kos and Podolski Underrated: Arteta and Sagna - The only players i can think of that consistently performer for us, and this is the main thing to look at, in my opinion. Outside Arsenal Overrated: Entire England football team except Ashley Cole (yes i don't like him either but he's been one of the best left backs in the world for ages) Underrated: Ramirez
Its kinda amusing how Diaby, Kos,Gibbs, Scezney and Walcott are getting called both under and overrated. Shows how subjective it really is.
Because he's our best player by a country mile. It's clear to see that Santi is on a different skill level to the entire team. At least we still have one top quality player left in our squad.
Outside of Arsenal. Overrated - Adam Johnson. Underrated - Younes Kaboul. (I know he is injured, but I thought he was so underrated last season)
Arsenal Overated: Wilshere, Koscielny Underated: Jenkinson, Giroud Chelsea: Overated: Luiz, Ivanovic Underated: Ramires, Mikel Man Utd Overated: Cleverley, Rooney, Welbeck Underated: Evans, Rafael, Hernandez (his overall play has improved since 10/11)
The purpose of this is how do players compare to arsenal fans, other fans and media perception of them, and in that case im afraid im going to have to put carzola in the overrated bracket. I think he is a very good player, but I've heard arsenal fans claim he is world class, but I don't think he would get into braca, real, or even Chelsea team. I know its not going to be popular but I just dont think he is as good as he is made out to be, im glad we signed him, and he is an excellent player. Under rated I would say diaby and gould.
Do people really overrate Luiz? Agree on Ramies and Mikel tho, they are certainly underrated at Chelsea. People only talk about the three Am's now but these two players are crucial to Chelsea. In particular Mikel if he gets injured there is no adequate replacement for him.
