i think we've only ever beaten them three times away from home. i've been lucky enough to see two of those, one at maine road - i think adrian coote scored at home i think its quite even but we do tend to get thrashed a lot by citeh, no matter how good or bad either team is. it's almost always a fixture, in any season, that we can write off. we have a similar effect on barnsley. have they ever taken a point off us?
Oh yeah definately, but as have been pointed out previous why be so dismissive of those games, last season you beat Man City, last season you could/should have got something away at arsenal, last season you beat everton at home, last season you beat spurs away, didn't you draw with chelski at home (not sure on that one tbh). what i am saying is yes you have played more top teams than bottom teams, BUT against those teams you got points that got you to 11th last season. so they aren't so write off as some would make out.
And I always thought - there are lies, damn lies and statistics!!! guru - you're quite right - several of the shots were from outside the 18 yard box, but we also had 10 of those shots 'on target' which were kept out by the brilliance of Marshall or a defender being on the line - Fer's attempt comes to mind on that one. guru - you're unearthing some interesting 'facts' re last season. Well done!!!
no game should be a write-off but equally you've got to expect that points will be much harder to come by when facing those teams. we've played arsenal when they were right at the top of their game this season (and to be fair, we could have got something from the game), we deserved something against chelsea but were a tad unlucky. last season we played man utd when they'd won 9 in a row i think, yet we still beat them. it happens - but it's more likely not to
hooper's brilliant header to the far post, that was damn unlucky. wasn't on target but was bloody close. that was a great chance. we also hit the post from inside the six yard box, marshall made countless saves, there were just as many shots blocked, some were cleared off the line, there was some bad finishing in there too... it was one of those games where we did everything but score.
and as KIO reminded us a few days ago, we have Liverpool away to come soon, so maybe another hiding on the cards
Suarez will have a field day, I reckon he will score at least 4, I wonder how many poor buggers will travel up to Liverpool for that one.
Indeed, and Mike 'taxi door lugs' Sheron was one of our bogey signings, too. The "new" Chris Sutton, but hey, we've done that one to death enough times
could well be. but we might have 7 more points on the board, you never know. it can change very quickly. i suspect that if we did take 7 points from the next three games, which isn't impossible, but then lost say 4-0 to liverpool, which again, is very possible, that would set a few people off again and this is my point about some never being behind the manager, no matter what. it would be interesting if it happened. to be honest, i'd happily get thumped at anfield if it meant we'd taken 7 points from west ham, newcastle, and palace
can someone tell me why jonathan pearce, who was commentating, said it was 'onside'? it was clearly a yard offside. and we scored two unfortunate own goals. blimey, we only lost 2-0. not so bad after all...
Critical thing for you guys this season is your games against teams around you, last season i believe it was a pretty **** return in those games, this season you need to improve that hugely. thats probably makes the failure to get 3 points against cardiff more damaging than the 7-0 against Man City.
You expect those decisions to go with the big teams.I hate giving Citeh a leg up with the GD every season. With the possible exception of Chelsea I would rather see anyone else win the title.A pair of cheque book teams.
And Elmander missed a sitter at the near post, so we could just as well call it 2-1, if it weren't for injuries to our main strikers. So basically a reasonable assessment suggests we lost 2-1 away to Man City. What the hell is all the fuss about?

Quite possibly. There is quite a bit riding on Saturday, it's actually quite scary, as rightly pointed out a number of times, a defeat and even possibly a draw is likely to create a horrible atmosphere. We just have to win these home games, as we do every season. One positive is we don't lose at home that often (3 times last season I think?), but have managed to do it twice already this season

I know, on MotD they froze the action and Pearce actually commented that he "just manages to stay onside" when you could clearly see from looking at the screen that he blatantly wasn't!
Yep definitely, and we need to win against the teams around us more this season as it looks like the top teams have stepped up a gear. Last season we were taking hardly any points off the teams around us but we made up for it by beating the big teams. We can't do that this year.
